Fantasy Flight Games have taken to their socials this week and produced a Newsletter alerting fans of the epic survival game that Zombicide is very much in their control now. For me, as a fan of the game, this game was a welcome relief.
The article is a very nice read providing an accurate short history of Zombicide, what the game is all about and highlighting all the different versions available to date. I also feel it is a great feature for Fantasy Flight fans as it puts Zombicide on their radar, potentially attracting new players to the game.
There is a brilliant line in the article that I find most reassuring.
“At Fantasy Flight Games, Zombicide enters its next phase. The goal is simple: preserve what makes Zombicide iconic while making sure new players know how they can step into its world.”
When the news broke that CMON (original developers) were in trouble, I was certainly concerned that may be it for the game. In collaboration with Asmodee, Fantasy Flight have kept it going and already had an incredibly successful crowd funder with Zombicide: Dead Men Tales, which was another hugely successful Zombicide campaign in line with what fans are used to seeing in a Zombicide crowdfunder.
But where was the news in this piece? Reassurement is great but I had hoped to know what else was going on for the game. Then at the end of the piece, the announcement that Zombicide is heading into the Board Game Arena world at the end of the month… That will be exciting for many people. Personally, I’m not a fan of BGA and whilst I have an account, it’s dormant. Boardgames really should be played on a table top (for me) and if Toy Story 5 has taught us anything, we need to be careful in our device use. So whilst this is big news, it isn’t big news for me and came away from reading the piece a little disappointed, when I should be happy that the game will live on.
