Fans of Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive are getting another way to explore Roshar, and this time you'll be doing it with armies, alliances, and plenty of Stormlight! Brotherwise Games has announced that Stormlight: War for Roshar will launch on Kickstarter on October 13, 2026. The strategy game is based on Sanderson's hugely popular fantasy series and puts players in control of the forces fighting for the future of Roshar.
Battle for Roshar!
Designed by John D Clair, War for Roshar is an asymmetric strategy game inspired by big conflict games such as Star Wars: Rebellion and War of the Ring. The game can be played in several formats, including one-versus-one, three-versus-one, and two-versus-two matches. Games last eight rounds, with each round ending in either a Highstorm or an Everstorm, bringing one of Roshar's most recognisable features directly into the gameplay. Players will need to manage territory, armies and diplomacy as they attempt to outmanoeuvre their opponents.
Heroes take the field!
Four major characters from The Stormlight Archive feature as playable leaders: Dalinar, Kaladin, Raboniel and Taravangian. Each faction begins with two leaders, which determine its starting deck and abilities. As the game progresses, players can unlock new cards, armies, allies, and powerful Surgebinding abilities. The Coalition of Honor can also recruit Knights Radiant, while Odium's forces have their own tools for taking control of Roshar. Victory isn't simply about crushing your opponent, either. Players need to capture important Oathgates and complete secondary objectives throughout the game, giving everyone plenty to think about beyond simply charging into battle!
Kickstarter is coming!
When the Kickstarter launches on October 13, backers will have several options available. The campaign will include the base game alongside a Champions mini-expansion and deluxe components. There will also be additional Stormlight Premium Miniatures, plus the first-ever Mistborn Premium Miniatures set from Brotherwise. It's another big step for a studio that has already made plenty of noise in Sanderson's Cosmere. Brotherwise Games has previously worked on Mistborn: The Deckbuilding Game and the Cosmere Roleplaying Game, alongside its own titles such as Boss Monster.
More Cosmere ahead!
War for Roshar is expected to fulfil its Kickstarter orders during 2027 before reaching traditional retail around the holiday season. There's plenty more Cosmere action on the horizon, too. Brotherwise is also preparing Mistborn, a new expansion for the Cosmere Roleplaying Game, which is scheduled to arrive in retail on November 4, 2026. For Stormlight Archive fans, October 13 could be a big date. War for Roshar looks set to turn one of Sanderson's biggest fantasy worlds into a proper tabletop battlefield, complete with heroes, armies, diplomacy, and enough supernatural weather to make you think twice about leaving the house!
