Fans of Flashgitz’s wonderfully unhinged animated series Space King are about to get the chance to take the madness to the tabletop! Space King: The Board Game launched on Kickstarter on August 30, 2026, and it has wasted absolutely no time in attracting attention. The campaign set a funding target of $50,000, but that goal was smashed almost immediately. Within just a few days, the project had pulled in more than $2.5 million from thousands of backers, putting it at more than 5,000% funded! And the campaign still has plenty of time left to run, with Kickstarter currently listing September 25 as the closing date. Not bad for a game about enormous space warriors blasting aliens and generally behaving terribly!
From YouTube to tabletop
For anyone unfamiliar with Space King, the series comes from Flashgitz, the animation duo of Tom Hinchliffe and Don Greger. The show is a deliberately ridiculous parody of grimdark sci-fi, particularly the familiar world of giant armoured warriors, alien enemies and humanity taking itself far too seriously. The tabletop game takes that same chaotic spirit and turns it into a miniature-heavy action game. Designed around a semi-cooperative experience, Space King: The Board Game sees players controlling Psycho Warriors as they battle enemies, complete missions and grab whatever loot they can get their hands on. The catch? You might be working together, but everyone still wants to earn the Space King’s favour! That means there is plenty of room for teamwork, competition and, naturally, betrayal.
Bring on the minis!
One of the biggest attractions here is the sheer amount of plastic involved. The campaign promises more than 30 official miniatures, alongside missions, cards, lore and additional content unlocked through stretch goals. The gameplay combines combat and exploration with the semi-cooperative rivalry between players. You will need to survive the battles together, while keeping one eye on what your fellow Psycho Warriors are doing. Because apparently fighting aliens wasn't enough. You also need to worry about Dave nicking all the glory!
A huge start!
The response to Space King: The Board Game has been seriously impressive. Current crowdfunding trackers have the project sitting at well over $2.5 million, with the average pledge sitting around $375. With the campaign running until September 25, there is still plenty of time for even more stretch goals and additions to be revealed. The game is currently expected to reach backers in December 2027, giving Flashgitz plenty of time to turn the Space King madness into a full tabletop experience. If you've ever wanted to command a squad of completely unreasonable space warriors, grab some loot and potentially betray your mates for the approval of a giant lunatic in power armour, this might be your moment.
Praise be to the Space King!
