Rock and Stone, miners!
Fans of Deep Rock Galactic will soon have another way to venture into the caves of Hoxxes, this time without needing a pickaxe or a gaming PC. Ghost Ship Games and MOOD Publishing have officially announced Deep Rock Galactic: The Card Game, with a Kickstarter campaign set to launch this September.
Unlike Deep Rock Galactic: The Board Game, which focused on cooperative dungeon crawling, this new release heads in a very different direction. Expect bluffing, tactical betting, hidden cards, and a healthy dose of friendly rivalry as players compete to haul home the biggest stash of Morkite!
A different kind of mining mission
The upcoming card game shifts the action from cooperative survival to competitive play.
Designed for two to six players, each game sees dwarven miners battling to become the most successful employee of the Deep Rock Galactic mining corporation. Rather than fighting off endless alien bugs together, players will be trying to outsmart one another through clever card play, strategic betting, and a bit of well-timed bluffing.
According to the designers, matches are expected to last around 15 to 20 minutes, making it a much quicker experience than its board game predecessor.
That shorter play time should also make it easy to fit in several rounds during a games night.
Bluffing joins the caves
One of the biggest additions to the Deep Rock Galactic formula is the focus on hidden information.
Players won't simply be drawing cards and hoping for the best. Instead, the game revolves around reading your opponents, making calculated risks, and deciding exactly when to commit to a big play.
If you've got a regular gaming group that enjoys bluffing games and trying to second guess each other's plans, this looks like it could be an interesting fit.
The developers have also described the game as highly replayable, with enough variety to encourage players to head back into the mines for "just one more round."
Kickstarter launches this September
The game will launch on Kickstarter in early September 2026.
Ahead of the campaign, Ghost Ship Games and MOOD Publishing have opened a Notify Me page where interested players can follow development updates and get an early look at gameplay reveals before the campaign goes live.
As with previous crowdfunding campaigns from MOOD Publishing, more detailed information about gameplay, components, stretch goals, and pricing is likely to be revealed closer to launch.
Building on a successful tabletop series
While the gameplay may be very different, Deep Rock Galactic already has a strong tabletop history.
Deep Rock Galactic: The Board Game successfully launched through Kickstarter in 2022 before receiving several major expansions over the following years.
Those additions included the Space Rig and Biome expansions in 2023, followed by Rival Incursion, Horrors of Hoxxes, and the fearsome Shockwyrm expansion in 2025.
Designed for all kinds of players
MOOD Publishing says the game has been designed to appeal to a broad audience rather than only experienced strategy gamers.
Kasper Mouritzen, Head of Publishing at MOOD Publishing, described the project as a fast-paced party-style card game featuring bluffing mechanics that can be adapted to different groups of friends.
Of course, we'll have to wait for the full rules to see exactly how the mechanics come together, but the emphasis on short games and player interaction certainly sounds promising.
Rock and Stone around the table!
Deep Rock Galactic has built a loyal community thanks to its mix of cooperative gameplay, memorable dwarven characters, and plenty of humorous moments.
The campaign is set to launch this September, so it won't be long before players find out exactly what surprises are waiting beneath the surface. Rock and Stone!
