The battle for the lawn is heading to the tabletop! Mantic Games has announced Plants vs. Zombies: The Board Game, a new cooperative tabletop adaptation of PopCap's hugely popular tower defence video game. The game is set to launch on Kickstarter in October 2026, giving fans a chance to bring the classic plant-powered zombie battle to their own gaming table.
Defend the lawn!
Just like the video game, players will need to rely on an arsenal of weaponised plants to stop waves of zombies from making their way towards the house. The big difference is that you'll now be working together around the table! Plants vs. Zombies: The Board Game will support between one and four players, making it possible to take on the undead invasion as a solo player or team up with friends and family.
Mantic hasn't revealed exactly how the tabletop mechanics will work yet, but the cooperative format should fit the original game's defensive gameplay nicely. Players will presumably need to think carefully about how they use their plants, where they deploy them, and how they deal with whatever zombie horde comes shambling onto the lawn.
From screen to table!
Plants vs. Zombies first launched in 2009 and quickly became one of PopCap's best-known games. Its simple concept was incredibly effective: grow plants, defend your home, and stop increasingly ridiculous zombies from reaching your door. Over the years, the franchise has expanded across multiple video games, spin-offs, and other forms of merchandise. Now, Mantic Games is giving the series another tabletop makeover. The colourful characters and instantly recognisable plants should make the transition particularly interesting, especially when you consider how many different abilities could potentially be translated into board game mechanics. And yes, we're already wondering how the tabletop version will handle the humble Wall-nut!
