The upcoming game is being developed as a cooperative experience, meaning players will work together to protect their garden from the incoming undead.
Defend the garden!
The board game aims to recreate the spirit of the original tower defence game, but with physical boards, miniatures and cards. Players can expect miniature versions of their favourite plant defenders, alongside a collection of zombies attempting to break through the garden. Cards will be used to activate plants and summon zombies, creating a tabletop version of the familiar back-and-forth battle. The original Plants vs. Zombies was all about choosing the right plants, managing limited resources and stopping waves of zombies before they reached the house. While the board game will naturally put its own spin on the formula, that same focus on planning and defence looks set to remain.
A cooperative challenge
One of the biggest changes is the move to cooperative gameplay. Rather than having one player control the plants and another take charge of the zombies, everyone appears to be working together against the undead threat. That should make the game a more natural fit for family game nights and groups of friends. The game also seems to feature scenario-based gameplay. Different scenarios can change how the board is set up, introduce restrictions, and create new challenges for players to overcome.
