Fief, the classic medieval strategy game, is getting another shot at the throne with a brand-new 45th Anniversary Edition. Originally designed by Philippe Mouchebeuf in 1981 before being released in France in 1984, Fief has spent decades building a reputation for political scheming, warfare, and some seriously questionable marriage decisions. Now, International Team is bringing Fief: France back through a new crowdfunding campaign, giving the old classic a modern makeover while keeping its core ideas firmly intact!
Build your dynasty
Fief puts you in charge of a powerful medieval family fighting for control of the kingdom. You’ll need to expand your territory, recruit troops, gain titles, and keep your rivals in check. But brute force isn’t always the answer. Diplomacy plays a huge part, with players able to form alliances through marriage and use political influence to push their family towards the throne. There’s also a healthy dose of backstabbing involved. Alliances can be incredibly useful, but medieval politics has never exactly been famous for its honesty! Players can compete for important royal and religious positions, including the King and Pope, creating plenty of ways to win without simply smashing your opponent’s armies.
A fresh coat of paint
The new edition isn't simply the old game shoved into a new box. International Team says the 45th Anniversary Edition has been updated and expanded while retaining the foundations that have kept Fief around for decades. The campaign also brings the rules back to the original French version, with the English edition being translated from those rules rather than using previous English changes. There are also some notable gameplay tweaks. Player money is now hidden, while player boards feature spaces for three Lords or Ladies and their servants. Plague remains part of the game, but characters sheltered in abbeys have better chances of surviving it.
More medieval mayhem
The campaign also includes new content, with the Teutonic Knights expansion included with every Fief: France pledge. The expansion adds the famous military order to the game, bringing another powerful force into the medieval mix. The campaign has already smashed through its initial funding target, unlocking additional stretch goals including an Abbess, a new Lord and a Hero.

Fief has survived for 45 years for a reason. It mixes territory control, combat, diplomacy and political manoeuvring into one wonderfully chaotic medieval package.
