Board games are having a big moment!

The board game boom shows no signs of slowing down! New research suggests the global board games market was worth around $15.8 billion in 2025, with projections putting it at nearly $39.7 billion by 2034. That is some serious growth for an industry built around cardboard, dice, and arguing over who gets the good pieces!

So, what is driving all this interest?

Back to the table

One of the biggest reasons is simple: people want to spend more time together away from their screens. Board games offer an easy way to bring friends and family around the same table, whether you are playing a quick party game or settling in for a four-hour strategy marathon. The demand for social, screen-free entertainment is a major factor behind the market's continued growth. Board game cafés and bars are also helping introduce more people to the hobby. These venues give players the chance to try games without buying them first, while creating spaces for events, tournaments and regular gaming groups. The board game café market is also expected to grow strongly through 2034, showing that tabletop gaming is becoming part of the wider social entertainment scene.

Something for everyone

The days of board games being limited to a handful of classics are long gone! Modern games cover practically every interest you can think of. Strategy fans can build empires, cooperative players can save the world, and party gamers can spend an evening discovering who in their friendship group has absolutely no idea how to draw. Themes are becoming increasingly important too. Games based on popular books, films, TV shows and video games can introduce existing fans to tabletop gaming, while giving publishers a recognisable way to attract new players. The latest market research also highlights the growing variety of modern games, from cooperative and storytelling experiences to solo games and titles that combine physical play with digital technology.

Online shopping, offline fun

E-commerce has also played a huge role in making board games easier to discover. Players can browse thousands of titles, compare prices, read reviews, and find games that might never appear on a traditional high street shelf. Crowdfunding has opened another door, allowing smaller publishers and independent designers to bring ambitious ideas to life while building communities around their games before release.

The future looks bright!

There are challenges, of course. Rising production, shipping and material costs can push prices up, while video games and mobile gaming are always competing for people's attention. Still, the outlook is looking pretty healthy. With cafés growing, new games arriving constantly, and more people looking for ways to socialise without another screen in front of them, board games look set to remain a major part of the entertainment landscape.

Basically, the cardboard revolution is still rolling. And frankly, we're here for it!
