Assassin’s Creed: Animus is coming this October!

An Assassins Creed character with the logo and text saying 'The board game'

The Assassin Brotherhood is leaving the screen and heading for the tabletop! Mantic Games’ Assassin’s Creed: Animus – The Board Game is getting ready to ship to backers this October, bringing Ubisoft’s long-running stealth series into a competitive tabletop adventure. The Kickstarter campaign attracted 2,828 backers, raising more than £274,000, showing that there’s clearly plenty of interest in hunting targets away from the console.

Enter the Animus!

Assassin’s Creed: Animus supports one to four players, with each player taking control of a legendary Assassin and stepping into their ancestor’s memories. Rather than simply working together, players are competing to become the ultimate Master Assassin. Everyone has their own character, abilities, equipment and objectives, meaning different Assassins can offer very different ways to approach each game. You’ll need to explore locations, investigate secrets, track down targets, and carefully manage your actions as you move around the board. And, naturally, staying hidden is rather important. Charging into every situation like a medieval battering ram probably isn't going to end well!

A trip through Assassin’s Creed history

One of the coolest parts of Animus is its huge selection of characters. The game reaches across the franchise’s history, pulling Assassins from the original Assassin’s Creed through to Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, while also including characters from Assassin’s Creed Liberation. That gives the game plenty of variety and means fans of different eras should have something to get excited about. Whether your favourite Assassin is from the series' early days or one of its later adventures, there’s a good chance you’ll recognise someone around the table.

Stealth meets strategy!

Animus looks to capture some of the core ideas that have made Assassin’s Creed so popular for nearly two decades. Exploration, investigation and assassination all play important roles, but players also need to keep an eye on their rivals. While you're busy hunting down your target, another player could be getting closer to completing their own objectives. That competitive twist could make for some tense games, especially when everyone is trying to pull off their assassination before somebody else gets there first!

Coming this October

With the Kickstarter campaign now behind it, Assassin’s Creed: Animus is heading towards its first major milestone, with the game expected to begin shipping to backers in October 2026. For Assassin’s Creed fans, it offers a chance to experience the franchise from a completely different perspective. Instead of picking up a controller and jumping across rooftops, you'll be sitting around a table plotting your next move. The Brotherhood is assembling. The targets are waiting.

Now, all that's left is to decide which Assassin you're taking into the Animus!
