Asmodee has officially revealed its first new Zombicide game since picking up the IP in 2025 - and it’s heading in a slightly different direction.
Fantasy Zombicide: Dead Men Tales is on the way from Fantasy Flight Games, with a crowdfunding campaign set to launch later this month on Gamefound.
A New Setting for Zombicide
This time around, Zombicide is swapping modern streets for the high seas. Dead Men Tales takes players into a fantasy version of the age of sail, where crews explore islands, hunt for treasure, and deal with the usual zombie problem along the way.
It keeps the co-op gameplay the series is known for, with 1–6 players teaming up to complete missions while managing waves of undead.
What’s New?
While the core idea will feel familiar to returning players, there are a few fresh additions to mix things up:
- Ship-based gameplay with cannons
- Rope movement for getting around (and likely escaping trouble)
- A new villain known as the Governor
- A nautical, fantasy setting with things like magic, orcs, and more
It’s not a full reinvention, but enough to give this version its own identity compared to earlier entries.
Still Very Much Zombicide
If you’ve played Zombicide before, you’ll know the general flow - work together, complete objectives, and try not to get overwhelmed.
Each character comes with their own abilities, and as the game goes on, both your team and the zombie threat ramp up. It’s not just about clearing enemies either - positioning, timing, and teamwork all play a part if you want to make it through.
There’s no confirmation yet on miniatures, which have been a big part of past Zombicide releases, so that’s something fans will likely be keeping an eye on as more details are revealed.
Extra Content on the Way
Alongside the board game, the campaign will also include Plaguebearer, a roleplaying game set in the same fantasy Zombicide world.
It’s designed as a lighter alternative to more complex RPG systems, giving players another way to explore the setting outside of the board game itself.
Launch Details
The Gamefound campaign for Fantasy Zombicide: Dead Men Tales is set to go live later this month, with more information on pledge levels and extras expected closer to launch.
For now, it looks like a fun new take on Zombicide - same co-op zombie action, just with a bit more sea spray and treasure hunting thrown in.
