The Donkey Sanctuary has unveiled a special edition of Monopoly, reimagined as an eco-friendly collector’s version that highlights the charity’s global work.
Released in Sidmouth, the game is made with zero plastic and is designed to raise awareness of donkey and mule welfare, as well as support the organisation’s ongoing initiatives.
This custom version features a fully themed board, donkey-shaped metal player pieces, and bespoke Title Deed cards. As players move around the board, they encounter real stories and initiatives from the charity, learning how it supports donkeys both in the UK and internationally.
Gameplay ties directly into the sanctuary’s mission. Instead of traditional property trading, players progress by contributing to animal welfare efforts, such as helping rehome donkeys, supporting veterinary care, or assisting research into issues like plastic pollution affecting livestock in places like Kenya.
The launch was marked with a creative on-site event, where large Monopoly-style wooden pieces were placed in the donkeys’ field, filled with treats to encourage exploration and enrichment - an important part of maintaining the animals’ physical and mental wellbeing.
The game is available through the sanctuary’s gift shop, both in person and online, with proceeds going directly toward funding its work.
