Yu-Gi-Oh! Banlist September 2025

If you’ve played Yu-Gi-Oh! for more than ten minutes, you’ve probably heard about the banlist. It’s Konami’s way of keeping the game fresh, balanced, and, let’s be honest, just a little bit chaotic. Every few months, cards get hit with the ban hammer, shuffled around to Limited or Semi-Limited, or even brought back from the shadow realm. The goal? Stop any one deck from becoming The Deck and give everyone a fighting chance.

The most recent shake-up landed on September 15, 2025, and as always, it’s brought joy to some duellists and heartbreak to others. Let’s break it down.

The New Forbidden Cards

These unlucky few are now Forbidden in Advanced Format (but still Limited if you’re playing Traditional):

  • Moon of the Closed Heaven
  • Splash Mage
  • King of the Feral Imps
  • Number 67: Pair-A-Dice Smasher

Freshly Limited

Next up, the cards you can now only run one copy of. Big names here, so brace yourself:

  • Ext Ryzeal
  • Maliss
  • Dormouse
  • Vanquish Soul Razen
  • Fiendsmith’s Lacrima
  • Linkuriboh
  • Summon Sorceress
  • Herald of the Arc Light
  • Zoodiac Drident
  • Crystron Inclusion
  • Obedience Schooled
  • Stake Your Soul!
  • Solemn Judgment

Semi-Limited

Only one big move here:

  • Branded Fusion

This one’s still playable, just not quite as spammable as before.

Back to Unlimited

And here’s the fun part – the comeback kids! These cards are now free to run at three copies again:

  • Glow-Up Bulb
  • Master Peace, The True Draco-Slaying King
  • Morphing Jar
  • Phantom Skyblaster
  • Snake-Eye Ash
  • Snake-Eyes Poplar
  • Dragonic Diagram
  • Lightning Storm
  • Zoodiac Barrage

Why Do Cards Get Banned Anyway?

Yu-Gi-Oh! is an insanely complex game. Every time Konami drops a new set, duellists immediately start breaking it wide open with combos that nobody saw coming. Sometimes, those combos are so strong that only a handful of decks can compete – and that’s when the game gets stale. The idea is to stop one strategy from steamrolling the entire meta.

Will These Cards Stay Banned Forever?

Not always! As you can see, plenty of cards bounce on and off the list depending on how the meta shifts. That said, classics like Pot of Greed, Graceful Charity, and Painful Choice are probably never leaving the Forbidden zone.
