Fans of the hit sci-fi board game Red Rising have something exciting on the horizon. The acclaimed strategy card game inspired by Pierce Brown’s bestselling novels is officially getting a digital adaptation, bringing its intense power struggles and clever gameplay to PC.

Originally released by Stonemaier Games, Red Rising is a competitive hand management game for one to six players. Players take control of characters from rival factions and houses, each fighting for influence and control across a futuristic society built on strict class divisions. Every card comes with unique abilities and combinations, rewarding players who can think ahead while adapting to shifting situations around the table.

The board game quickly earned praise for blending straightforward mechanics with tactical depth. While matches move at a brisk pace, there is still plenty of room for long-term planning, risk-taking, and reading your opponents’ intentions. It is easy to learn but offers enough challenge to keep experienced players engaged.

Bringing the cards to life

A colorful sci-fi themed board game with vibrant cards featuring characters and futuristic elements. Mars, Jupiter, Luna, and Institute sections are visible, highlighting strategic gameplay with tokens, objectives, and scores. The upcoming digital version aims to recreate the tabletop experience while adding a layer of visual flair that would be impossible in physical form. According to the developers, players can expect animated cards, shimmering gold foil effects, and dynamic visuals designed to make each character stand out on screen.

Voice performances are also being added to give the game’s colourful cast more personality. Since the Red Rising universe is packed with memorable figures and political rivalries, these additions could help the digital adaptation feel even more immersive for long-time fans of the novels and board game alike.

Beyond presentation upgrades, the digital edition will also include practical quality-of-life tools. Features like instant score tracking, built-in rule references, and an in-game codex are intended to speed up matches and make the experience easier to jump into. The codex in particular sounds like a welcome addition for players wanting to explore the deeper lore behind the game’s factions, houses, and social hierarchy.

A passion project

The adaptation is being developed by Emerald City Games, a studio clearly enthusiastic about the source material. CEO Derek Day described the partnership as a rare opportunity to work on a game the team genuinely loves, explaining that their admiration for Red Rising was a major reason for approaching Stonemaier Games in the first place.

That excitement seems to be shared by Stonemaier founder Jamey Stegmaier, who explained that the studio had been waiting for the right developers to bring the game into the digital space. He praised Emerald City Games for sharing the same passion for the series and its universe, adding that the new adaptation would give players another way to experience the game.

Great news

Digital adaptations of tabletop games continue to grow in popularity, especially for strategy-heavy experiences that work well online. Games like Wingspan, Root, and Terraforming Mars have already shown how successful these transitions can be when handled carefully. Red Rising looks ready to join that list by keeping the core gameplay intact while adding features tailored for digital play.

For fans of the original board game, the adaptation could become an easy way to fit in matches with friends without needing to set up a physical table. Meanwhile, newcomers who enjoy tactical card games may find it an accessible entry point into the Red Rising universe.

There is no release date just yet, but anticipation is already building. With stylish presentation, streamlined gameplay tools, and a strong love for the source material behind the scenes, Red Rising’s digital debut could be one to watch for both board game veterans and sci-fi fans alike.
