Riding surprisingly fast on the recent reveal of the second wave of Kin models to be released, Games Workshop have already announced that they will be available for pre-order as early as this coming Sunday! Now that’s some turn around time. So I thought we best have a quick dive into what’s coming.
Codex
Of course, we can’t have a Leagues of Votann release without a new codex. We’ve been since this edition came out, which is quite a while ago now, and we’re all hoping that this codex unlocks some dwarven fervour! The codex will contain 21 datasheet, five detachments (not the most, but an ok amount) and a brand new army rule! Of course there will be a normal version and a delicious collectors edition (which I’d be too worried about to actually use haha).
Buri Aegnirssen
This guy doesn’t mess around. He’s known as the thrice devoured for good reason, even the Tyranid’s couldn’t stop him. From what little we know so far, he either does 5 S12, or 10 S6 attacks in combat, plus he’s a Lone Operative that returns from the grave on a 2+ once per game.
Arkanyst Evaluator
About as close to a mad scientist as you’re likely to get with the Kin. The Arkanyst tests all sorts of experimental weaponry, often endangering himself in the process. His gun will apparently come with 3 different fire modes, each increasingly more dangerous (to both the enemy and the user).
Memnyr Strategist
If this Ironkin isn’t channelling some Mr Burns energy I don’t know who is. He’s got a plan, that’s for sure, and that plan is helped by the 3 extra brains he’s got attached to him to help him process all the variables. He joins units of Steeljacks, which we will come onto soon, helping to spend the new Yield points in interesting ways.
Cthonian Earthshakers
Up? Up?! Nobody fires a mortar UP anymore. That’s so last millennium. Down is the way to go. Unlike their Imperial namesake, these earthshakers take a more direct approach, firing their ordnance through the earth to surprise their enemies from below. Genius!
Ironkin Steeljacks
Ironkin on steroids. Or at least, with a significant upgrade. Likely the tallest of all the Kin, these Ironkin Steeljacks tower over both their fellow dwarves and the enemy, and are fearsome to boot. Experts in kicking people off objectives and tough as nails, they have a 2+ save and they get Precision when attacking units on objectives. Don’t expect those characters to last long when they’re around.
Kapricus
The Hernkyn are always on the move, scouting out the enemy and marking the juiciest claims. And to do that you need transport. The Kapricus can get them where they need to be and fast, while sporting some guns to boot. And if they need a little more firepower, it can alternatively be built with no transport capacity, but a lot more firepower!
Combat Patrol: Leagues of Votann
Now for an update of sorts. There is a new Leagues of Votann combat patrol in town to replace the old one. These are always a welcome change, partially because new combat patrols to try out in the fast paced low model count game is always good, but mainly because they are often a great way to pick up some great models at a lower price. This one is a bit ‘heavier’ than the previous one. It still includes troops, but then it has the elite
Hearthguard and the devastating Thunderkyn. A solid collection to either add to an existing army or start a new one.
Dice and Datacards
Last but certainly not least, the dice and datacards. While we always expect these, they are nice to have. Granted the app is handy as it gets updated as FAQs and errata are released, but the datacards are just super handy in a game, plus you can always update them yourself. And of course, we can’t play the new Leagues of Votann models with Leagues of Votann dice, otherwise we won’t be lucky at all. These are nice dice and I can definitely see myself getting some.
So there you have it, all sorts of releases for the Leagues of Votann, coming much sooner than we thought. Are you thinking of starting a Votann army? Or maybe like me you are looking to expand. Whatever the case there is something here for you.
