Sharpen your blades, folks – the iconic 2-player dungeon crawler Claustrophobia 1692 is clawing its way back from the darkness. Devir Games has officially announced that they’re relaunching the fan-favourite title after acquiring the license from Monolith, and this time they’re going big. The revamped edition will hit Gamefound in early 2026, with a pre-campaign kicking off this year.
For those new to the underworld, Claustrophobia 1692 is a brutal head-to-head showdown between the forces of good and evil. One player commands a small band of condemned warriors led by their Redeemer – humanity’s last hope in a world gone to Hell (literally). The other player takes command of the infernal hordes, hell-spawned creatures that hunger for human souls.
But here’s the exciting bit – this isn’t just a simple reprint. Nope. Devir’s calling it the rebirth of a masterpiece. They’re teaming up with the game’s legendary designer CROC to bring it into the modern era. Expect all-new miniatures, refreshed artwork, expanded campaign scenarios, and a revised ruleset that aims to make the game smoother.
Publisher David Esbrí at Devir summed it up perfectly:
“This is no ordinary reprint – this is the rebirth of a masterpiece that first stormed the gaming world in 2009, returned briefly in 2019, and has never stopped haunting the tables of those lucky enough to own it.”
And honestly? He’s not wrong. The original Claustrophobia earned a cult following for its asymmetric gameplay and tense, cinematic feel. Every session felt like a desperate story unfolding – a doomed crusade through the underbelly of the world, where every dice roll could mean redemption or ruin.
This upcoming version promises to honour that legacy while turning the dial up to eleven. CROC himself is overseeing the new edition, ensuring every movr hits just right. Devir’s also teasing that they’ll be unveiling new character sculpts and infernal monstrosities over the coming weeks – starting with the Redeemer himself, humanity’s fearless leader.
And if you’re heading to Essen Spiel this year, make sure to swing by Devir’s booth. You’ll get a first look at the new miniatures in all their hellish glory. Can’t make it to Germany? Don’t worry – Devir will be sharing updates, photos, and behind-the-scenes peeks throughout the pre-campaign.
It’s also worth noting that this marks Devir’s first-ever crowdfunded board game, so they’re clearly pulling out all the stops to make it something special.
