This 18 card deck provided a quick playing game of intrigue and tactics for 2-4 players. It spawned a few different versions, including a Batman version. They were, however, all reskins of the same basic game.Infinity Gauntlet is 'A Love Letter Game' and while it is recognisably Love Letter, it is a different game too. Casting one player as Thanos and one or more as the Avengers, each team has their own deck and player elimination has been taken out of the game as though snapped away by the Mad Titan himself. The Thanos player draws two cards from their deck, and the heroes draw one card each from their shared deck. Thanos always starts the game and turns play out the same way - draw one card and play one card taking the action on the card. The heroes deck is number 1-6 and each number occurs between 1 and 3 times. Numbers may represent different heroes with different art, but the powers are always the same - heroes' 1 cards always do the same thing. Thanos' deck works slightly differently. Again each number can appear multiple times, but it goes up to 7 and in the first 6 numbers appear one infinity stone at each number. Infinity Stones have a slightly better power than the regular version of that number. To win Thanos must defeat a certain number of heroes or have all six infinity stones in out in front of them or in front of them and in their hand. Thanos' deck works as a good indicator of this as it's almost impossible to run through it without winning. The heroes have to defeat Thanos' cards a certain amount of times depending on player count. Infinity Gauntlet puts a thematic twist on the Love Letter formula with huge success. The theme is arguably better integrated and the improvements make it a game you will play multiple times in one sitting. As you do you will discover different synergies between the cards and learn how to combat certain tactics. Recommend for most players! It's part of Oink Games, a Japanese company, whose insistence lies in that their games come in teeny-tiny boxes. Deep Sea Adventure comes in a cerulean-blue package, and it's about the same size as a packet of cigarettes. It's handbag size; you can fit it in your pocket, no problem. This is a push-your-luck game, where up to six players are divers on board a rickety submarine, and each are looking to claim as much sunken treasure as possible. The 'treasure' are triangles (0-3 points each), squares (4-7 points each), pentagons (8-11 points each) and hexagons (12-15 points each) and are placed face-down so you cannot see their exact value. The triangles are nearest the surface and the hexagons are on the ocean floor (it's always the way, isn't it?). You roll two dice on your turn (each go up to three, you'll roll between two and six) and move that many spaces down. No two divers can share the same space, so you'll leapfrog over people, meaning you can and will move more spaces that the total you roll. You decide whether to claim the treasure you land on, and if you do, you replace it with a generic space token, so everyone still has to include this space on their descent, or ascent back up. Importantly, as soon as you pick up a piece of treasure, the sub's collective oxygen supply begins to diminish. It starts on 25 units, but goes down by the number of treasure pieces a diver has at the start of their turn, so it runs out fast! Also, for each trinket you possess, you have to lose a pip from the dice total you just rolled. So your climb back to the surface can be agonisingly slow if you were too greedy and picked up too much booty! Ah yes, treasure is theoretically worthless underwater - you need to get it back up to the surface to actually score its points value. And herein lies the decisions: do you carry on diving to get another piece of treasure? You're so close to getting a pentagon piece! Or do you cut your losses now, play safe and head back to the sub? If you're still underwater when the oxygen runs out, divers have to drop their treasure where it sinks to the bottom of the ocean into bundles, and they kick to the surface, gasping for air. Alive, but no treasure for their efforts. Deep Sea Adventure lasts for three rounds. Treasure tokens are only revealed at the end of the round, so you'll know for the next round how much of risk you'll need to take to try and beat the current leader... But keep a close eye on that oxygen meter! Deep Sea Adventure never fails to entertain and amuse - good things come in small packages, after all. The magic of KLASK is in the magnets. Each player slides their hand under their half of the raised playing surface and holds on to a large magnet. This magnet sticks to a smaller, upright magnet on the top of the board that the players will use to move the small ball around. At each end of the board is a goal hole. In between the two players there are three small, magnetic obstacles that can move around. The aim of the game is to be the first to score five points. These points can be scored in four different ways: Scoring a goal. Your opponent scoring an own goal. Two of the magnetic obstacles sticking to your opponent's piece. Your opponent losing their game piece over the side of the board. Every time a point is scored, the player who conceded it will restart the game from the designated corner of the game board. And that's all there is to it! KLASK falls into a long tradition of tabletop dexterity games that have been inspired by sports. Unlike some others, it isn't too bulky. The beautifully made wooden set can be set up on just about any playing surface, as long as both players can comfortably place their hand below the board. KLASK can be enjoyed by just about anyone. This is a tile-drafting, pattern-building game, with set collection bonuses up for grabs. Here you're decorating a palace with Moorish azulejo tiles. The Portuguese king has commissioned you with a 5x5 pattern. Azul is a challenge to see who can impress the king with their tiled walls!Traditional azulejos are white and blue, but in Azul they come in five colours/patterns. And we're not talking cardboard punchboards or wooden tokens for components. The 100 'Starburst'-sized azulejo tiles are resin material. They make a wonderful clacking noise when jangled in the cloth bag! To start a round, four tiles get drawn from the bag and placed onto each 'factory'. Players take turns drafting tiles from any factory of their choice. Whenever they pick tiles from a factory, they have to take all tiles of a matching type present there. Those they don't draft join a new, separate factory. As the round wears on, this separate factory grows in size, but the drafting of tiles rule applies here, too. Players draft tiles until all factories sit empty. You're aiming to collect enough of one tile type to fill in thresholds on your player mat. At the end of each round, if you've filled up a threshold, you can stick said tile onto the wall! It's like Sudoku; once you've filled one tile-type onto the wall, it can't repeat on the same row or column. At first, you'll collect tiles in a laid-back fashion. But the pinch closes in during later rounds. Your options start to become ever-more specific. Other players can take note of your predicaments. Elements of push-your-luck enter the fray. Especially considering there's the chance you might get left with excess tiles you can't place! These class as 'smashed' tiles... And that means minus-points!Azul is a quick game to teach, and addictive to play. This fits the category of easy to learn, but tricky to master. It's like the Ronseal of board game titles - "does exactly what it says on the tin". Kingdom-ino? Well played, Bruno Cathala; well played, sir. This won the coveted Spiel des Jahres award in 2017 (the best Family Game of the Year), and it is easy to see why... Kingdomino is a charming, colourful tile-laying board game for two to four players. You're competing monarchs, acquiring rectangular 2x1 land tiles that have two different terrains on them - including lakes, mines, pastures and more. There are 48 tiles in total, and in theory, the more valuable tiles are the higher-numbered ones. Some tiles will have crowns on them - these are worth precious points. The game ends after 12 rounds (24 rounds in the two-player variant). Players then multiply the size of each continuous terrain by the number of crowns within it. Highest score wins! Gameplay is as wonderful as it is simple. As many tiles are randomly selected from the supply as there are players, and are then placed numerically. In turn order, players select which Kingdomino tile they want by placing their monarch on it. Then more tiles are revealed, but turn order has changed; now the first player is the person that claimed the lowest number tile in the previous round. They do two things: claim another tile from those just revealed, and then place the tile they claimed earlier into their own, expanding kingdom. When putting a tile into a kingdom, at least one of the two terrain types must touch a matching terrain (Dominoes-style). You might wish to, say, expand your woodland, or concentrate on a giant lake, instead. However, players must think strategically and plan ahead: the borders of your kingdom only stretch so far. You're limited to building five squares high by five squares wide. (In the two-player variant, you can build a 7x7 grid, which becomes quite the pleasant puzzle). The rules are quick to teach and elegant to present - you'll be up and running within two to three minutes of taking it out of the box. Games are short and snappy - they fit into that wonderful 'Let's play that again!' category. The garden in Takenoko starts out as one hexagonal pond tile. Two pre-painted minis - the panda and the gardener - begin here. This garden will grow in a modular fashion through the game as player attempt to race to complete seven Objective Cards (in a four-player game). There are five different actions players can pick from on their turn. They have to pick two different actions from the following:

Draw three garden plots (hex tiles), pick one to lay into the garden and discard the other two.
Take an irrigation channel from the reserve.
Move the gardener in a straight line (thus increasing the bamboo to grow in that plot as well as on adjacent tiles of the same colour).
Move the panda in a straight line ('eating' - removing - a piece of bamboo from that tile).
Draw a face-down Objective Card.

The key to Takenoko is completing those Objectives. They range from feeding certain types or quantities of bamboo to the panda (there are common green tiles that grow green bamboo, less-common yellow, and rarer-still pink), to having certain alignments of garden terrain (such as a row of 3x yellows, for example), to having a certain amount of bamboo grown in a certain tile. Rather deliciously, these objectives butt heads somewhat, because while Player A is trying to grow bamboo using the gardener, Player B might be more interested in feeding it to the panda! To add spice, tiles have to be within an irrigation network in order to grow bamboo, so tile placement is a real consideration. Some tiles will also have symbols on them, meaning that bamboo grows at twice the rate, or perhaps it cannot be fed to the panda at all. These symbols can also be acquired to place on plain tiles, meaning you can control the layout to a degree. There is no limit as to how many Objective Cards you complete on your turn, but your hand size is limited. Helpfully, on your turn you also roll a Weather Die, which will inform you which of the six bonuses the weather gives you (ranging from an additional third action to select, to having the option to take the same action twice, and so on). Takenoko is wonderfully vivid. And since there are literal bamboo towers that you'll build, along with a cute, mini panda moving about, it gathers lots of attention from curious passers-by. Gameplay is simple to grasp, and games last about 45 minutes. Simply put, Antoine Bauza's Takenoko ticks every box going for being a brilliant gateway game! Released in 2012 by Indie Boards and Cards, this is a must have addition to any gamer who likes bluffing games. Each player is given two face-down roles, which only they know. On your turn your face-down cards will allow you to perform various actions. For example, if you have the Duke you can take three coins from the central supply instead of one. With the roles face-down, when a player takes three coins from the supply, how do you know they really have the Duke? If you suspect a player to be taking an action for a role they don't have then you can call their bluff. If you call them out successfully then they will lose a life, however, if you have challenged incorrectly then you lose a life. Any time a player gathers seven money they can perform a Coup. This is an action that cannot be stopped and will remove one players life. Timing when to perform a Coup is key to winning the game. Most social deduction/hidden role/bluffing games improve when you play a lot with the same player group. Coup is no different, being able to spot players' tells or preferred actions is very rewarding. Players then using these tells to their own advantage is even better. If one player is known for using an Assassin early on whenever they have one, then in future games they will be able to pretend to have an Assassin without anyone challenging them. There is player elimination in this game, but each game is over so quickly that you will not be watching others play for more than a few minutes. You are interested in the information that is yet to be revealed so you're engaged with what's happening after your elimination. If you enjoy games like Cockroach Poker and , then Coup will be a great addition to your collection. Learning the different roles and actions can appear daunting. Once you've played one 15-minute game with the player aid in front of you you'll be stealing coins from your friends as if you actually have the cards you're claiming to have. The aim of UNO is simple… Try to get rid of all your cards, the quickest! It takes 30 seconds to explain the rules, and even less than that to set up the game.

You’ll need some smart hand-management skills, alongside the grace of Lady Luck to win a game of UNO. Up to ten players can join in the madness, with each player starting with a hand of cards. There are standard number cards (0-9), and some action cards. There are four colours – red, blue, yellow and green. On your turn you get to play one card from your hand. It must match either the colour of the previously played card, or it must match the number. If you can’t meet those requirements: tough luck! You’ll have to draw a card from the deck and add it to your hand.

UNO is devious, because of some of the sneaky cards in the pack that feature ‘take that’ elements. Some make the next player skip a turn. Other cards switch the order of play from clockwise to counter-clockwise (or vice versa). Some cards force the next player to pick up two cards. There are two types of Wild Card too, that let you select a colour the next player must play. The most dreaded card is the Wild Card that forces the next player to pick up four cards!

Whenever a player gets down to one card left, they must declare, “UNO!” when they play their penultimate card. If not, they cannot win on their next turn, even if they can legally place their last card. Forgetfulness forces you to pick up an extra card, instead. UNO by Mattel is a simple card game that anyone can play, whether you’re 6 or 96 years old.

Player Count: 2-10 players
Time: 30 minutes
Age: 6+
