Everyone who I have communicated the title of this game to cannot help but smile, snigger or just burst out laughing. It naturally evokes humour and joy. Does the game live up to the title and the first impression?
Tooooot!
Sadly, this game is just Bingo. By this I mean there is nothing additional about the game in connection to the fart in the title and this was a little disappointing.
So the game plays out exactly like Bingo. The game is for 2-8 players and contains 16 different score cards, 48 draw tiles, an 8 x 6 grid to lay the draw tiles on and check what has been drawn as well as a bundle of fart tokens for players to lay on their score card when a draw tile they have is called.
One player will draw and call and the rest will check their card for matches. The player who draws can have their own card as well. The draw items are 24 creatures and then 24 different types of fart from those creatures with some humorous animation (my favourite is the dragon fart). The score cards have 16 items needed to collect and when a player gathers 16, they shout “Bingo” and are the winner.
Prrrrrrppppp!
The game is bingo first and foremost but the creators have missed a huge trick in not doing something else with the theme they have set. Honestly, could you not even think instead of shouting Bingo just to get the players to make a fart sound to signal they had won? I’m shocked that something more has not been done to maximise the humour from the theme.
There are no lines or corners either. It is very simply just to complete your board for the win. So for me there does need to be more players involved to make the game that bit more entertaining and have that party-like environment around the game.
Playing with the kids did see quite a lot of laughter about the different creatures involved and them being most curious about the different farts they made. However, because they are still learning to read, they cannot read the words below the fart items and so the dealer had to show these tokens each and every time so they could work out if they had that particular fart on their score card. It took something away because do you know what a Manatee fart looks like? I didn't think so. If you can read then this is a non issue.
Bottom Burp
What also makes Bingo? Prizes!!! Because there are no additional rules or mechanics to make the game more entertaining with the theme, make sure you have prizes to keep your group
engaged with the game. It is essential for me. I remember playing bingo in French at school and I was engaged because there were sweets to be won. It is no different here and Bingo must have prizes because there is no skill involved. It is pure luck on who wins and loses.
One novel inclusion with the set is the Farty Facts booklet where you get some wonderful information about the farts of each of the creatures in the game. This was my highlight and provided me with a few giggles. Toilet humour always gets me.
Final Thoughts
This game is alright because it is Bingo and who doesn’t enjoy a game of Bingo. I was left underwhelmed that more had not been done with the game to do something with the highly amusing theme that had been used. I’ve played other games centred around toilet humour that do make a lot more of it and it just hasn’t happened here. That said, it’s still Bingo, looks great visually and delivers the game at the end of the day, a shorter game, but does deliver.
