Dungeons & Lasers - The Goblin King review

Tabletop game box featuring "The Goblin King" miniature. The creature is depicted with a club and vivid, intricate details, set against a red background.

Tyrant of the Goblin Hordes

Once a mercenary with nothing but hunger in his gut, he carved his crown from the bones of fallen kings. Now every swing of his axe reminds the world that power is taken, never given.

Includes:

1 x Goblin King Miniature on one sprue.

Review:

I had been looking for a large Goblin model to lead my goblins against any plucky adventurers looking to explore or drive them from their lairs. When I came across the Dungeons & Lasers range by Archon Studio.

What do you get?

In the box is a single sprue that allows you to assemble one Goblin King with base on the sprue.

There are no instructions, however on the box is a QR code linking to an online manual.

Assembly and Options:

The casting on the model is very clean and sharp and once removed from the sprue there are very minimal mold lines to clean up. The instructions online are clear and easy to follow with 12 stages and a couple of options for the model.

You can either arm the Goblin King with a fearsome spiked mace, or a large double handed axe. For the base there is an optional pile of treasure, and the Goblin King himself can be wearing his fearsome bone carved crown.

The legs have nice long pins on them that allow not to glue them to the feet that are molded to the base. This will greatly ease the painting of the model and allow you to get access to the inner legs and loin cloth.

There are no game specific details on the model, giving it multi system flexibility for either roleplaying or tabletop gaming.

Painting:

The model took the spray undercoat nicely and the detail is easy to pick out with its nice sharp detail. There are some close ups on the box to give you inspiration. Mine has been painted up in very bright colours as he is the Fey Goblin King for an adventure that I am running.

Uses:

This is mostly primarily will be used for roleplaying games, not just restricted to D&D but easily used for Pathfinder, LOTR etc as it does not carry any specific

Changes I would like to see:

To echo the long pins on the legs. I would have liked to have seen this on the weapon options as well, giving a bit more flexibility to the model so I could swap the axe for the mace depending how I wanted the Goblin King to be armed.

Add an assembly guide, I know in this day and age we want to look to save paper, but this could have been printed on the rear of the box. It’s just a small nick pick

Final Thoughts

I really enjoyed the cleaning and assembly of the model and the options available to the maker. Mine has been assembled with a two handed axe and proudly wears the bone carved crown. He is sitting proudly on the shelf waiting for his tribe of Fey Goblins to turn up, but that is the next project.

If you are looking for a nice large Goblin model then this is a fantastic choice.
