Danger Danger Card Game review

Overview

A fast paced team card game, by creators of Exploding Kittens, for 2-8 players. Danger Danger is played for one minute with multiple rounds, the winner of each round is the one with the most suitcases showing on their coloured cards at the end of the time. The winning team is the team who gets three tokens first.

The key part is the timer of one minute, if you are still playing cards at the end of that minute you lose that round.

Contents

In the box you’ll find two sets of cards one pink the other yellow. 5 tokens, and a set of rules.

Setup

DANGER DANGER

Firstly, split yourselves into two teams, these don’t have to be even if you have an odd amount of players. From there each team takes one of either the yellow or pink decks, shuffling and placing in front of yourselves. Drawing the top three cards you put a row in the middle of the table so both teams should mirror each other. Each team should be able to reach the other sides cards as well, lastly place one card below the draw pile this is your swap card.

Take the tokens from the Box and place these to one side, then get your timer ready, any timer for 60 seconds can be used, it just can’t be visible to players. ( all will be explained)

Rules

Ok, let the chaos begin players from each team will draw 1 card from the draw pile and then they have four possible actions to choose from, Play, Swap, Wait or Trash.

Play – exactly what it says on the tin, you can play you card on top of any stack of cards as long as the number is 1 higher or 1 lower that the top card of the stack.

Swap – you can choose to swap your card with the one card in the swap pile and then play it accordingly.

Wait – erm, well you wait. Wait until you can play the card, not necessarily the best choice.

Trash – you can trash a card by placing it next to the opposite teams draw pile, however for every card trashed the opposing team will gain the number of suitcases shown on them.

At the end of the timer you count up the number of suitcases showing for each colour deck and whoever has the most wins that round.

A couple of key points to not, there is a ‘New Stack’ this can be used either as a normal card or used to create a new stack (yes exactly as it says on the tin).

Having explained the main rule just one thing remains, what defines still playing cards, well the instructions lay it out beautifully so enjoy those when you come to them. Simply put every member of the team must have no cards in hand (should have played them) and both hands on the table face down and have said “Go Out” one all the members of the team have done this they are safe from losing. However, the other team can still be playing cards so ruining all your hard work. But nobody can be sure when that alarm / Buzzer is going to go off.

Conclusion

Well, to sum Danger Danger up, a fun fast paced ice breaker game, would recommend as a party game however maybe not something if you are looking for a dungeon crawler or Euro game, artwork is quite basic in design and complexity is very easy. Not a bad stocking filler if that time of the year. I think it will come down to what are you looking for in a game, in regards to this one but certainly a quick fun game.
