The most satisfying upcoming game...

The Satisfactory board game logo with the character in the background along with the box

Fans of Satisfactory have another reason to get excited! The hugely popular factory building game is officially making the jump from PC screens to tabletops, with Satisfactory: The Board Game now in development.

The project is being created through a collaboration between MOOD Publishing, Coffee Stain Studios, and Coffee Stain Publishing. Better yet, it will be heading to crowdfunding later this year, giving fans the chance to help bring it to life. While there is still plenty to learn about the game, the first details suggest it aims to capture everything players love about building enormous automated factories, just in a brand-new format!

Build bigger!

If you've spent countless hours perfecting conveyor belts and production lines in the video game, you'll probably feel right at home here.

Satisfactory: The Board Game is designed for one to four players and offers a competitive sandbox experience. Each player takes on the role of a FICSIT Pioneer, landing on the alien planet MASSAGE-2(A-B)b with one simple goal. Build the best factory and complete the Space Elevator before everyone else! Like the video game, success won't come from rushing. Careful planning, smart expansion, and efficient production will all play a huge role in claiming victory.

Explore the planet!

One of the biggest parts of Satisfactory has always been exploration, and thankfully, that's making the journey to the tabletop too! Players will venture across the planet searching for valuable resource deposits while uncovering new locations and opportunities. Choosing where to establish your factory could make all the difference, especially when valuable materials become harder to reach later in the game.

The video game is known for its colourful biomes, hidden caves, towering cliffs, and dangerous wildlife. While it's still unclear exactly how much of that will appear in the board game, exploration is already confirmed as one of its core mechanics.

Automation is everything!

No Satisfactory experience would be complete without automation! Building machines, connecting production lines, and creating efficient conveyor networks are all central to the gameplay. Players will gradually expand their factories by producing increasingly advanced components while keeping everything running as smoothly as possible.

Power management also returns, meaning you won't simply be throwing down machines without thinking. Balancing energy production alongside manufacturing will be another challenge players need to overcome if they want their factory operating at full capacity. Finding the most efficient layout could be the difference between winning and falling behind!

Unlock new technology!

Progression is another major part of the experience. As players complete milestones and projects, they'll unlock improved technologies that allow their factories to become even more productive. Just like the digital version, expanding your technological capabilities should open the door to more advanced manufacturing options and bigger production chains.

Of course, every FICSIT employee has one goal in mind. Becoming the coveted Employee of the Month!

Solo or competitive!

Whether you enjoy gaming alone or with friends, the board game has you covered. It supports solo play for those wanting to optimise every production line at their own pace, while groups of up to four players can compete to become the most successful pioneer on the planet.

The competitive angle adds an interesting twist compared to the video game, which many players enjoy cooperatively. Racing to complete objectives before your opponents could create plenty of tense moments around the table!

Crowdfunding is coming!

At the time of writing, very little has been revealed beyond the announcement and a piece of promotional artwork. Components, gameplay details, pricing, and a release window are all still under wraps. What has been confirmed is that the project will launch through a crowdfunding campaign later this year, following a growing trend among modern board game publishers. Crowdfunding allows developers to gauge interest, unlock stretch goals, and involve the community throughout the production process.

MOOD Publishing has developed a reputation for adapting well-known video games into tabletop experiences, so fans will no doubt be eager to see how faithfully Satisfactory's addictive gameplay translates away from the screen.

A perfect fit?

Satisfactory has become one of the biggest names in the factory building genre thanks to its satisfying progression, rewarding automation systems, and endless opportunities for optimisation. Since leaving Early Access and receiving its full 1.0 release, the game has continued to attract a huge community of players looking to build ever more ambitious factories. Those mechanics already feel like a natural fit for tabletop gaming, making this one of the more exciting video game adaptations currently on the horizon.

We'll have to wait until the crowdfunding campaign launches to learn exactly how everything works, but if the board game captures even a fraction of what makes the original so addictive, factory fans could be in for a real treat!
