Disney Lorcana: Huge News From The Latest Livestream!!

WOW! I cannot believe the amount of exciting news Ravensburger just disclosed in their last livestream on the 6th of May. I doubt anyone was disappointed by the impressive amount of information we received yesterday, considering that it has been a while since the last Disney Lorcana Lorecast and how eager the community was to hear more about what the future will hold for this amazing Trading Card Game.

To be fair, Ravensburger has not disappointed and packed a ton of news in a crescendo of excitement. I think what we saw yesterday demonstrates that the team is constantly working to grow Disney Lorcana by addressing any issues and by listening to what both players and collectors have to say. Some of the news disclosed yesterday was not unexpected, and not just because some of the pictures were leaked last week, but because they make sense in order to keep this game as fair and engaging as possible.

Overall, I am very excited to see what the third year of Disney Lorcana has in store for us, thus let’s start by looking at all the incredible things planned to bring us close to the second anniversary our this game.

World finals and global distribution

As we heard recently, Disney Lorcana is actively working to bring the game into more countries following the addition of Japan and China in 2025. Current plans include further expansion to other countries in Asia and the kick-off of the distribution in LATAM. The first country lined up is Brazil, but there will be more countries to follow quickly. As a result, we can surely expect the next round of Disney Lorcana Challenges to be expanded to also include the newly added countries.

Ravensburger has not yet disclosed the schedule of the future DLC events, but it has been announced that the full plan will be revealed during the World Championship. On that note, Ravensburger confirmed the event to crown the very first Disney Lorcana World Champion will be held at the Walt Disney World Resort on the 28th and 29th of June. Unfortunately, the team decided to keep this first World Championship as a VIP experience limited to those who topped last year’s DLCs, thus, people will have to watch the event on Twitch. However, everyone who will watch the event will not only learn about the future DLCs, but they will also be able to claim an amazing non-foil “A Whole New World” Promo card as a way to celebrate the end of the first World Championship. We will know more about the process to get these cards later, but I personally think it is a very nice idea that should please all the fans.

Disney Lorcana Set 7: Reign of Jafar

While the product line for Reign of Jafar was revealed quite a while ago, we did not get many actual details on the set itself, therefore, it was great to finally learn more about the next set in Disney Lorcana, releasing at the end of May. The star of the set is obviously the Gran Vizier of Agrabah, who managed to restore the Hexwell crown and used its power to turn Archazia’s Island into his reign by altering the landscape completely to suit his style.

Under the despotic ruling of Jafar, the island turned into a desert, and it is filled with Illusion glimmers like the new Magic Carpet and the new Palace Guard. “Magic Carpet, Phantom rug” in particular is a nice 3-cost card that quests for 2 and has the passive ability to grant Challenger +1 to all other illusion Characters. To rule over all these Illusions, the set also includes the new “Jafar, High Sultan of Lorcana“, a 5-cost Character that can draw a card when questing to then discard a card. However, if an Illusion Character is discarded as a part of this effect, the player can play it for free instead. This ability seems quite powerful, in particular when you consider that the Sultan of Lorcana can also gain three lore when questing and can be a target.

Not surprisingly, Jafar, High Sultan of Lorcana has also been picked as the Enchanted Promo card for the next set championship. The artwork for this new set champ prize is both stunning and intimidating at the same time, exactly like Jafar, and I cannot wait to book myself a spot for a chance to win this card and the associate playmat. On this note, the events linked to Reign of Jafar will be the first ones to use the new Ravensburger Play hub recently announced. The new app is expected to offer a much better experience, and players will be able to create new accounts very soon.

In order to support the battle against Jafar, the Illumineers also received new support, and which Glimmers would be best suited to defend Archazia’s Island than the Characters from the Bambi movie? During the preview we saw yesterday, we saw a nice “Bambi, Prince of the Forest” and two major fan-favourite Characters, “Flower, Shy Skunk” and “Thumper, Young Bunny”. A new 6-cost dual Ink “Pluto, Tried and True” will also be included in the set, as we spotted it as the seasonal promo card for this set.

Among the other cards shown during the stream, it is worth mentioning “Jasmine, Steady Strategist” a 4-cost Sapphire-Steel Dual-Ink card that not only can shift for 2 on another character named Jasmine but it also allow the player to look to the top 3 cards of their deck and take any Ally Character among them to their hand. Together with being an interesting card, Jasmine will also be the very first Dual-Ink card to become an Enchanted. The full extended artwork of this card is just stunning, and I am sure this will be among the most beautiful cards in Lorcana. Most importantly, I cannot wait to see all the other Enchanted cards from this set.

As previously done when Ursula’s Return storyline came to its peak, set eight will include a new Illumineer Quest named “Jafar Palace Heist”.This time, the Illumineers and their glimmers decided not to take Jafar directly, but they infiltrated his palace in order to steal the Hexwell crown and destroy it. Their aim is to sneak undetected and take away the power of the Gran Vizier instead of fighting him. Together with different mechanics and challenges, this new Quest has been largely upgraded with respect to the first one to include a cardboard board (instead of the paper one found in Deep Trouble), separate deck boxes for the decks and better tokens. As seen before, the Quest includes a red reward envelope with a mysterious prize.

The final product is essentially more similar to a stand-alone board game that players can enjoy and then place back on a shelf to be replayed over and over. Deep Trouble was a lot of fun, but this new Quest seems much more intriguing, so I cannot wait to see how it looks and challenge myself.

Last but not least, we have seen the cards from the new OP kit, including the promo card for the pre-release event, “Pull the Level”, and the amazing “Minnie Mouse, Daring Defender” that should be gifted to everyone buying a full Booster box of the Reign of Jafar set. The three promos to be won by playing weekly are “Lady, Decisive Dog”, “Aladdin, Vigilant Guard” and “Patch, Playful Pup”. All the cards look amazing in their foil treatment and they are also quite interesting in terms of Gameplay. Lady, in particular, seems a potential great addition to the Lemon&Lime Hyper Deck that I played in some of the Archazia’s Island events.

Disney Lorcana Set 8: Fabled

The first set of the third year of Disney Lorcana, “Fabled” will release on August 29th, and will bring a lot of important additions to Disney Lorcana TCG fans. The first main change will please all the collectors of these beautiful cards, as Ravensburger will introduce two new rarities: Iconic and Epic. Iconic cards are rarer than Enchanted cards and there will be only two of them in each set. The Iconic cards will be alternate versions of existing cards, but they will have full, extended Artwork and several patterns and hot stamp effects to create stunning pieces of art. Epic cards, on the other hand, will appear more often than Enchanted cards, but they will still be rarer than a Legendary card. Fabled will include 18 Epic cards that will be easy to recognize due to the open-frame artwork and the special rainbow foil treatments. Of course, both Iconic and Epic cards will have their own rarity symbol and they will take the slot of the foil card in each Booster pack.

In terms of Gameplay, Fabled will also mark the first time Disney Lorcana will rotate cards out. Set rotation is a very common tool in Trading Card Games that helps in keeping the game fresh and engaging by making the cards of some older sets unavailable for players to use in official events. In case of Disney Lorcana, once Fabled releases, all cards from the first four sets will rotate out of the Core Constructed format, although they will still be available to play in a new format, called “Infinity Constructed”. Of course, all fans of this game will still be able to play with their entire card collection in casual games. Moreover, Ravensburger announced that about half of the cards in Fabled will be reprints of selected cards from the sets that will rotate out. As these re-prints will be part of the new set, players will be able to use both the re-prints in set nine AND the original version from their set in the core constructed format. This means that even after the first four sets are rotated out, around 102 cards from these sets will be reprinted and they can still be played in official tournaments.

As Ryan Miller, Brand Manager and Co-Designer of Disney Lorcana TCG at Ravensburger, mentioned, “To keep the competitive game thriving, rotating out older cards to encourage new strategies and fresh deck designs is a really important part of the next chapter. But because we know there are cards in those early sets that are important to a lot of fans’ deck-building strategies, and we know not everybody got the cards they wanted the first year, we’re re-printing some cards from those first sets in Fabled. Including Enchanted versions of some fan favourites!”

During the live stream, we saw a couple of examples of cards that should be reprinted, “Stitch, Rockstar” and “Tinker Bell, Giant Fairy”. This last one is particularly interesting as it will be included as a promo card in a new type of product called “The Collection Starter Set”. This little box is designed to be the perfect way for Disney-lovers to jump-start their collection as it includes four Booster packs of Fabled, one 4-pocket binder and a promo Tinker Bell with a special Glimmer foil treatment we saw recently on a few other promo cards. This Starter Set is clearly designed with Collectors in mind, and I will be looking forward to reviewing it further once available.

Is there even more? End of 2025 and beyond

While the ninth set of Disney Lorcana is set to bring tons of exciting changes to this TCG, there will actually be even more coming in set 10, “Whispers in the Well”. The fourth and last set of 2025 will release in Q4 2025, likely at the end of November, and will see the addition of a new type of glimmer. The visual released for the set shows glimmers sketched on shining pieces of paper, making me think we will likely expect some kind of new mechanic to be introduced. In the background of the picture for the set, you can also spot a very interesting winged figure: would this dark shadow be Chernabog (as Ravensburger previously confirmed Black Cauldron will be added in a 2025 set) or is a hint that the Characters from the series “Gargoyles” will also be joining Disney Lorcana? The great news is that Whispers in the Well will actually include both of these franchises!!!

Of course, after learning how many great things are coming to Disney Lorcana in 2025, players may wonder if next year will also hold some good surprises? Well, we already knew that Ravensburger has plans to bring Pixar movies to the game in 2026, but today we also learned that we will soon see Characters from “A Goofy Movie” as Glimmers in Disney Lorcana. Goofy, Pete, Max and PJ will definitely be a great addition to the game, but I hope we will get an amazing Powerline with some cool songs to play.

I am also very excited to learn that “the terror that flaps in the night” will also be added to the game in 2026. Darkwing Duck has been one of my all-time favourite Disney characters and I cannot wait to see how the Characters from this series will integrate into the game. “Let’s get dangerous”!
