And we’re back with another epic Adepticon, the premier wargaming event on our social calendars. One day I hope to attempt, but alas, Milwaukee is a fair trek from the UK. But that doesn’t stop me, and by extension you, from enjoying everything revealed. There are other reveals of course, but for now let's dig into the main course, and by that I mean, Warhammer!

40k 11th Edition reveal
While it was expected, that doesn’t make it any less cool. The 11th edition of 40k has been announced. Or, sorry, the next edition, they specifically don’t do numbers, but come on, it’s 11th, just own it. Anyway, the important part, it’s Blood Angels vs Orks and the cover art for the box is a remake of the 2nd edition cover art, which is cool. It’s also nice that it isn’t Ultramarines for once!
I have a full post on this separately, so I won’t go into great detail here. We don’t actually have that much detail to look at. But the edition will tweak a few things:
- Models - Obviously there will be a wave of releases for these factions on and after the launch. Keep an eye out for more info.
- Army Building - More detachments and the ability to take multiple detachments. Interesting.
- Missions - Detachments affect missions, keep an eye out for more on this.
- Objectives - RIP the circle objective, it’s all about terrain now.
- Terrain - Big rework, because honestly they’ll never figure out perfect terrain rules.
- Combat - Numerous small changes, should flow better now.
That’s all I’ll say here. Pop over to my other post on the topic for more in depth information.
Armageddon: The Return of Yarrick
Yep, Yarrick’s back. The man just can’t die (which I’m convinced is because the Orks continue to believe he lives). Armageddon never fear, Yarrick will never let you fall, even if he’s beset by Wazdakka Gutsmek and his fellow Speed Freaks. The new Yarrick model we saw recently and is excellent, but now we get to see a few more. Namely Wazdakka, who is riding his epic bike Big Revva. I especially like the rocket and exhaust effects on this model.
But that’s not all, there are several new Astra Militarum tanks coming out which are either half-tracks or an ATV, which is pretty neat and creates some variety in the usual Guard lists we see. These are headed up by Commissar Graves in her own new vehicle that doesn’t look like it’s going to stop for any kind of foe.
Next we have Intranzia Fraye, Dogmata Superior, an Adepta Sororitas who seems happy to be sitting on a mobile throne of fire and death, marching about the battlefield kicking ass and aura farming.
Then we have Inquisitor Kroyle riding a six-legged Garralisk. This model is incredible and will definitely be finding a place in my collection. He’s even got the option of a hat which makes him look like a Spanish conquistadore. Very cool. I feel bad for Imperial Agents and always like it when they get something new. I hope they will be treated better in the new edition than the last.
And finally, we have the Armageddon book collection itself. These will come in a collection of 3 like the other narrative books have, and have plenty of background lore and new rules contained within.
Mephiston Wētā model
Games Workshop's ongoing collaboration with Wētā is the gift that keeps on giving. They have now made an exceptional model of Mephiston, and while this will undoubtedly be expensive, it will be stunning I have no doubt.
Aeronautica Imperialis animated series
If you are one to keep up with the releases on Warhammer TV, then you’ll be excited to find out that a new 3 part series is being made about Aeronautica Imperialis. Its Imperial pilots versus Aeldari from Craftworld Saim-Hann. Definitely a tough fight, so it promises to be a good watch. If you haven’t tried Warhammer+, of which the TV section is only one part, personally I’d say it’s worth a go. The subscription price is very reasonable, especially given how other prices have gone up, and there is all sorts of content available.
The Red Terror returns…in Kill Team?
Yes you heard it here folks, the Red Terror has returned. This Tyranid has been haunting the Imperium for as long as I can remember, but was in dire need of a new model. Like, DIRE need. It’s being added to Kill Team as a sort of evil menace type creature you can run joint ops scenario events against. This is cool and I think the Kill
Team creators have done a fantastic job, but there is no denying the majority of people will want this model to use elsewhere. Or hell, just for display, it’s a really nice model.
Ogryns, big guns and a Spartan in Horus Heresy
Over on the Horus Heresy side of things we have several new models coming out, one which is very weird. First we have the Spartan Prometheus Assault Tank, a classic Land Raider ancestor which needs no introduction and looks good. Then we have the Rapier Fire Support Battery, which in essence is like any artillery support piece, but I remember seeing this in Legions Imperialis and I like that the driver rides along with the artillery on a mini-machine with treads. And last but certainly not least, we have the Charonite Ogryn Section. These are weird, like really weird. I’ve always known Ogryn’s as sort of hulked out super mutants, so to see this proto form of almost regular soldiers stuffed into an armoured void suit and pumped full of every combat drug known to the Imperium is weird. Very grimdark and I love it, but weird.
Cities of Sigmar are getting some massive reinforcements
It’s honestly a struggle for me to say that the highlight of the Adepticon reveals is 11th edition, because the new Cities of Sigmar reveals are just so damn good. There is one obvious one we will come on to, but I don’t want to discount the others, so I’ll briefly go through them.
Erasmus Zonn, the Enlightened One - Competing against the 40k Inquisitor for best mount. It has two different heads, wings, bird feet at the front and horse hooves at the back…and a snake for a tail. Wow.
Collegiate Battlemages - Not bad. The fire effect on the fire mage is pretty cool.
Gate Gargants - One only tells the truth, one only tells lies. At least that’s what came into my head looking at these too. You don’t quite appreciate the scale of these until you look at the crows nest gunners On. Their. Heads! Also, they just picked up some massive doors for shields. Badass.
Dawner’s Triumph - Cool terrain piece but I’m a Thousand Sons player so it doesn’t beat the Argent Shards haha
Jorvan Kreel, Heir of the Kraken - Decent model with a good boy companion. One of those models which would look quite tame if they weren’t standing on a tactical rock, or in this case, roof.
Mallus Forgepriest - I feel the memes generating as we speak. The pose and expression of this guy is great. Good for conversions too.
Freeguild Gallants - Knights without horses, because there isn’t always a horse magically available.
Freeguild Grenadiers - Knights that prefer range. There is a nice selection of weaponry here.
Spearhead: Zenestra’s Zealots - I always appreciate new Spearhead and this one fits the more esoteric side of Cities of Sigmar well.
Regiment of Renown: Ven Denst’s Hounds - Nice selection of ‘hunter’ like models that pair well with Galen and Doralia Ven Denst.
All right all right, it’s time. Cannonade Cogfort
My god. This model is one of the most epic things I have seen in my entire life. It’s a castle on legs, and well made legs too, like it looks like this thing would actually move steadily and not just fall over. It’s bristling with guns, festooned with crows, and is taking several soldiers along for the ride. The brickwork is impeccable, the roof is great…it’s just all amazing.
This is one of those models where I look at it and I want to own it for so many reasons. Firstly, to build as normal and display, or use if I ever collect Cities of Sigmar (don’t tempt me). Then to convert for all sorts of things. 40k Knight proxy? Leagues of Votann Land Fortress, since it IS a Land. Fortress. Even something out of left field, like, do you know the RPG Colostle? Probably not, but in it there are Rooks which are giant walking castles. So, this! Maybe I could paint one up in their style for display too. But then I’d need to find a Rookling model to sit on the base, hmm. Seriously, go check out Colostle, it’s cool.
Thyrielle’s Zephyrites
What was that? No, I don't know how to say it either. But I do know that it’s a new Lumineth Realmlords warband for Warhammer Underworlds. It’s easy for Underworlds to be overshadowed by other games, but it’s a solid game and well worth your time, especially for those who want a more contained experience, or have less time.
New Spearhead box, City of Ash
Always a welcome sight, there is a new Spearhead boxset coming out. That means two teams battling it out on a brand new double sided board with new missions and game rules. This time it’s the Freeguild vs the deadly Clans Eshin. All the models in this box look great, especially the Skaven. I don’t get a chance to play Spearhead a lot, but I want to, so this tempts me even just so I have the different maps available. Plus, you know, Skaven rock.
New Riders of Rohan and Hill Tribes Miniatures
You know how we got a big new MESBG release box to go along with the new animated film. And you know how they updated all the Warriors of Rohan but didn’t give us any new Riders of Rohan (the very thing Rohan is famous for). Well they listened and we have them, nice shiny new Riders of Rohan to expand our army. Plus a set of Rohan commanders you lead your noble warriors…and yes I suppose a Hill Tribesmen commanders set too, it’s only fair.
And that’s all folks. I hope you enjoyed Adepticon and there is something here that you are looking forward to. Honestly I’m overwhelmed by the choice!
