Wavelength is a social guessing game in which two teams compete to read each other’s minds. Teams need a minimum of two people, but the player count per team can be whatever you like. Teams will take turns to play rounds til one team gets to 10 points total.
The team playing a round will first pick a player to be the “psychic” for that round. Once this is done, everyone but the psychic closes their eye or looks away and the psychic spins the wheel, looks at where the point area is placed, and then pulls back the cover over the wheel to hide the placement of the point area.
The team playing then draws a card which will have a matching theme shown by two words, for example, the card might show ‘SMALL-BIG’. This card relates to the wheel that comes with Wavelength which is to be propped up within the box as the play area. In our example, the left side of the wheel would be small, and the right would be big. The Psychic will then pick a word to match the theme and tell their team the word and the rest of that team will have to work together to try and figure out where to place the pointer on the wheel to match as close as possible to the psychics hint. For example, if we had the ‘SMALL-BIG’ card still and the psychics’ hint was ‘planet’ then you’d most likely be moving the pointer to the right side (matching to BIG on the theme card).
Once confirming their choice, the playing team would then reveal the point area on the wheel and would gain points depending on where the pointer is placed within the point area on the wheel. The turn marker then gets passed to the next team and repeats til one team achieves 10 points in total.
