How to play Final Girl – Once Upon a Full Moon

So here’s the thing about the Final Girl Feature Film boxes. The gameplay of each feature film is broadly going to be the same. Where each feature film differs is some element in the set up, and the specific rules around the villain and the location you’re playing with. So in order to save you, dear reader, from reading the same thing over and over again, here is a handy link to the original How to Play for the Final Girl Core Box (also written by me!). What will follow is the specific differences between the Once Upon a Full Moon Feature Film.

Set Up

In this box, you have two new Final Girl Cards to use: Gretel and Red, and a new Killer: The Big Bad Wolf. It’s all very thematic for the story we have going on here. Like with the base game, you’ll shuffle in the Terror Cards for the Location and the Killer into a deck and follow the setup cards as normal.

How to Play

The Killer and Location have special rules for this set, so follow the respective rules during play.

Big Bad Wolf

The Big Bad Wolf is a nasty hunter, and his Terror cards reflect this. Most of these cards consider the mode the Wolf is in, either Track or Slay. The cards do have a clear indicator for which action you should be using. The Wolf starts the game in Track mode, and if he is in this mode at the start of the Killer phase, then all effects will be the Track mode option.

When you reveal the Dark Powers, the Wolf goes into Slay mode. However, if you started the turn Track mode, you will not apply the Slay effects until the next Killer phase. The Wolf is always in one mode or the other, with the only exception being the Killing Machine Epic Dark Power card which will have you apply both effects.

Storybook Woods

The big feature of the Storybook Woods is, ironically, the smaller size. This can make it look easier, but a smaller zone for a fast Killer will stack up on you quickly.

Bridges

This board has three bridges that cross the River at various locations. The bridges are built very poorly, so they have a risk of collapse. Therefore you can only take 1 Victim across the

bridge at a time. An event, the Toll Bridge, may have you add a token on the board, creating a new bridge, but this has the same restriction of one Victim only able to follow you across.

The Raft

Hidden in the item deck is a Raft. When it comes out, you will choose four spaces of the spaces with the Raft symbol to place tokens on. The tokens must be placed so that they touch both the river and a non-exit space. This will show where the Raft can go ashore, letting you move to and from these spaces along the river as the Raft Item card outlines. It’ll cost you Time to go down the river, but at least you’re moving further.
