Lego Marvel 76316 Galactus Vs The Fantastic Four review

A colorful toy figure, resembling a humanoid robot, stands surrounded by small toy characters. It conveys a playful and imaginative scene.

One of the absolute ultimate Marvel Villains has entered the world of Lego! Galactus has arrived. It is up to the Fantastic Four to do all they can to stop him devouring the Earth.

I was very excited to pick this set up, one for me for a change over my children and it is just so cool.

The Build

Set 76316 contains 427 pieces of Lego to form Galactus and the Fantastic. Divided into 4 packs within the set box, which I felt was a nice touch alongside the Fantastic 4. Each pack contains one of the Fantastic 4 minis.

You will start with the torso of Galactus, followed by legs, then the arms and finally the head of Galactus.

The set took me about an hour and a half to build but I wasn’t rushing. A keen builder will go a lot quicker than this, I’m certain of that. I found it incredibly relaxing and mindful just to focus on the task and appreciate the construct of the model coming together. It is not a complex creation but then Lego is so clear in their instruction that I don’t feel any adult would struggle or even a competent child.

The Result

I was very pleased with the final outcome of the model. My initial thought is Galactus should probably be even bigger than what Lego have delivered. He is enormous in the MCU and arguably this model is not big enough compared to the Fantastic Four minis, but there would be an additional cost tagged with that should Lego have made a bigger creation.

You step away from that thought and it is a very cool and detailed model. It is also quite robust which you don’t always know how it will go with Lego. But when my kids get their hands on him, he will need to be and will likely last longer than a few minutes. Certainly seeing their eyes light up at the size of the model suggests that the model is 100% delivering on an expectation from a kids perspective, it is way bigger than anything they presently own.

I love all the detail on the model as well. The likeness is very much there and Lego have smashed that. Equally the detail in the Fantastic Four minis is also there. I particularly like the Jonny Storm mini, it is right on point for me. Some fans have been critical of Ben Grimm (AKA, the Thing) for not being large enough but that really is hyper critical. There are incredibly hulk minis out there that are the same size as others so what are you really going to do here…?

The models have more of a toy feel about them over display models as you get with other Lego sets. I just haven’t quite caved in letting my children have it. It isn’t necessarily grand enough on its own to be a display model. As part of a larger scene, that would work. I really am sounding a little like Lord Buisness here but the kids will get it in the not so distant future because it would be an excellent addition to their lego play.

Final Thoughts

A colorful LEGO figure resembling a superhero stands on a table, wearing pink and blue armor with a large headpiece. Mini figures are attached to its arms.

I really did have a lot of fun building this model. There is plenty to appreciate in the detail of the set as well as being great for children to play with as part of their Lego creativity. I do need another model now to get stuck into.
