There are issues to weigh up (future-facing pun intended) when considering bakeries, and I’m probably thinking particularly about the artistic treats that dazzle in the window display. They are sugar, flour and cream from tip to delicious, crispy base. They are evil for your health and your belt – trust me on this. This makes me sad. The tastes, however, make me happy. These two things balance each other out, so I can just about manage to dodge most bakeries after a morality check (not mortality check, which this stupid laptop autocorrected to). But what if there was someone running that bakery who you simply couldn’t resist?
Oddly, the story description on Macaraccoon’s Kickstarter page does not lead with the game’s killer USP, so I’m going to help them out and risk having my dear readers abandon the rest of this article after the next sentence. The bakery is run by a raccoon. Yep, I’ll see some of you later.
Let’s dig into the backstory a little further (for those of you still here (I appreciate you)). Day in and day out, the critters of Sugarmouth eagerly go to Macaraccoon’s bakery. He’s the town’s official Bake Master, and makes sweet treats for all! Until today. Macaraccoon is hanging up his apron! The critters of the land panic. Who will feed them? Luckily, Macaraccoon has promised to find the town’s next Bake Master at a grand Bake Day! Excitement wafts through the air. Do you have what it takes?
2-5 aspiring pastry chefs while spend about 45-60 minutes in a bake off to become the most beloved critter in the kitchen. You’ll craft delectable desserts for picky customers with the help of adorable animal chefs to become the smartest cookie in the jar.
Pick transparent ingredient cards from a shared kitchen and layer them to watch your culinary creations come to life – this is a pretty smart piece of design work, and allows for some interesting concoctions. It also adds to the competitive edge, as you might see a card you want, but your enemy chefs might guess your intentions and get to it first.
Complete orders to earn not just precious sugar, but the most love from the crowd! Cook up a storm with sugar by reaching for far-away ingredients, enlisting the help of seasoned chefs, and even eating it yourself to get the energy to take bonus actions. But remember – only the critter with the most hearts will be crowned Bakemaster! It’s only love that gets us through, dudes.
