Flip 7 is a push your luck party game and one that I try to get to the table regularly as it is a hit with both those who like heavy complicated board games and those that haven’t played a game since Monopoly. But how do you Flip 7?
This is not a complicated game and Flip 7 can be taught to almost anyone. The winner of the game will be the first player to reach 200 points, or the player who has the most points should several players hit this score in the same round. The game consists of a number of rounds and a round will continue until all players have passed, have flipped 7 unique number cards or are out.
The game consists of a large pack of cards, which must be well shuffled prior to starting. Within this deck are 12 number 12 cards, 11 number 11 cards etc etc etc all the way down to 1 number 1 card (well and 1 number 0 card too). There are a number of modifier cards, offering bonus points or a potential double to your score and then there are three actions cards, freeze, second chance or flip three.
The goal of each round is to not be dealt the same number value card twice, and to gain as many points as you can. To setup each round, deal each player one face up card, resolving any action cards dealt to either yourself or another player. Freeze stops an opponent or yourself gaining any more cards that round, Flip Three means you or another player has to flip three cards, and second chance protects you from being out the first time you are dealt two of the same number value cards.
On your turn, you have two choices, to take another card, or to stay. If you have a 12, and get another 12 for example, you are out, but get a 9 and then you can push your luck the next time it is your turn to draw. If you decide to stick, and not have any other cards dealt, then play also continues to the next player. If one player is lucky enough to Flip 7 unique number cards, the round ends, and they are awarded 15 bonus points for the round.
Once the round is complete, players total their points if they have any by adding the total of their number cards and applying any modifiers they have drawn. If you are lucky enough to have the 2x modifier, this applies to the number cards only and not the other modifiers.
Then you go again! Keep flipping those cards and laughing hysterically until one player emerges victoriously having totally 200 points or more!
