From Lorcana, to Villainous, to Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing (I chose the latter this time), unboxing a franchise game comes with a mixed bag of emotions for sure. Let me invite you into a 360 view of my thoughts….
They aren’t on the box, they aren’t inside the box, after all I do for them, giving them presents, helping their bee stings to heal with medicine from Nooks’ shop and letting them visit my house MID decoration progress. Isabelle is here, but why hasn’t she brought them with her to Monopoly?! They have betrayed me and I miss them!
Oh wait, this is great! It has the same format of Monopoly, but it is so different! Instead of buying properties, the first player to land on each equivalent (coloured banner-topped) space gets to be the first to discover that ”island”. The game keeps the theme of brown ‘islands’ giving the least rewards, working round the board with increasing value up to dark blue islands, though. It also still has the ‘chance’ cards, which are absolutely adorable, for example, the amazing Isabelle the shih tzu singing the new island tune to collect 2 coins, and Mabel and Sable from the tailors’ designing new patterns to be customised, also rewarding 2 coins (see how I chose 2 positives rather than mean ones there! Well, we all need a bit of cheer).
I feel really motivated to have a good play of the real thing now, maybe I will make a second gym on the island, but more of a spa-theme this time… Oooo, I could try to make my island as good as those dream destinations I see people pin online!
The 4 player counters are 3D figures, none of them look like ‘Ella’ on my island but they are all so beautiful and cool anyway! So so different to the original Monopoly metal hat and westie doggie. These figures were my major pull to purchase this game, and I am not disappointed.
On a final little note: those 4 games I listed at the start, only 1 I am yet to try: Villainous. Watch this space!
