As both a LEGO collector and a dad who grew up watching Back to the Future more times than I can count, I was genuinely excited to get my hands on the LEGO Speed Champions Back to the Future Time Machine. Thankfully, it didn’t disappoint.
The build strikes a great balance between being enjoyable for experienced LEGO fans and accessible enough to build with younger family members. The designers have done an impressive job capturing the iconic shape of the DeLorean within the Speed Champions format. At first I wondered whether the wider Speed Champions scale would suit the car, but once completed it looks fantastic on display.
What really won me over were the details. The flux capacitor references, time-travel equipment and the distinctive stainless-steel appearance all instantly evoke memories of watching Marty and Doc race through time. For a model of this size, there’s an impressive amount of movie accuracy packed in.
As a collector, I appreciate that it doesn’t take up much shelf space while still being instantly recognisable. It sits proudly alongside larger LEGO display pieces without looking out of place. As a dad, it’s also one of those sets that sparks conversations. My children wanted to know what the strange-looking car was, which naturally led to a family movie night.
The included minifigures are exceptional and are an instant nostalgia trip back to the movies.

For LEGO collectors, car enthusiasts, and Back to the Future fans alike, this set feels like a little piece of movie history. Every time I walk past it on the shelf, I can’t help but hear the soundtrack in my head and imagine it hitting 88 miles per hour. That’s probably the highest compliment I can give any movie-themed LEGO set.
