Castel Boom is a memory/dexterity game where players gain golden coins (points) based on the tiles they pick off the game board and the towers they build! But, players need to make sure the towers donāt tumble or they wonāt earn any points.
A turn is split into two phases. In the first phase, a player will start with the memory aspect of the game. The player will turn over stair tiles which are placed around the game board. If they are the same colour, the player will keep flipping until they get one that's a different colour and then the player stops and earns points (gold coins) based on how many tiles of the same colour they have picked.

The players turn then moves onto the second phase which is the dexterity part of the turn. The player takes the tiles that they have chosen in that turn that are all the same colour and take that many tower blocks from the box. They then find the colour circle on the game board that matches the colour of the tiles that have been picked. They then begin to build the tower. The player uses the tiles they have collected to stack the tower blocks on top of one another. If the player places everything without causing anything to tumble, they gain gold coins (points) based on the amount of tower blocks they have placed successfully. If the tower block falls, no points!
Play then goes to the next player. This continues in turn order until there are no more tiles left around the board. Points are calculated and the player with the most points wins!
This game is great to play with your children or group of children that you work with. When I picked up the rules of this game, I quickly realised it was going to be quick to learn and teach and it was! The rules clearly outline how setup works as well and this was super easy to do.
The components are a great quality. Especially the game board. I think the tower blocks may get a bit of wear and tear if you play this game often but that is expected with a dexterity based game.
The turns flow really well with the two phases. I liked that the phases consisted of different board game mechanics. The push your luck/memory with the tiles made it suspenseful as you donāt want to choose a tile thatās a different colour! The dexterity element makes the game super fun and the difference of the tower blocks where some of them are slanted makes it that extra bit more challenging which was fun! Also, I like the fact that if you knock over the tower block that you are working on, youāre not eliminated from the game and you just lose points.
There are also opportunities for house rules in the game. You could take the wild tiles out to make it a harder game or if you are playing with younger children, you could give them the gold coins even if they do cause the tower the fall down. Adding house rules as well will add that extra layer of replayability, especially with children!
