Introduction:
Bake Battle Roll CIC is a community board game cafe; we strive to be an inclusive and safe space for everyone, particularly the LGBTQ+ and Neurodiverse communities.
We're James and Rachel, and we first opened the cafe in March 2019 after moving to Doncaster. Our love of board gaming started in Bedford where we decided to play a few games to try and spend some quality time together instead of just staring at our phones, and found that we loved it! We then started visiting our local board game cafe ‘Ready steady roll’ in Bedford. When the opportunity to move to Doncaster came up we knew we wanted to open our cafe there.
Bake Battle Roll CIC is so much more than a board game cafe, we work closely with a good number of organisations to support the community as much as possible. Since opening we have raised over £20,000 for charities, including the Sheffield children’s hospital and a Doncaster based charity called DRASACS. We’ve done lots of our fundraising by hosting 24 hour gaming and Blood on the Clocktower events.
Our board game collection
At the cafe, we have over 850 games ranging from a great selection of children and family games, up to some very weighty games and everything in between. We have lots of party games, 2 player games and 27 different versions of monopoly. ( We accidentally started a collection...) Some of our most popular games are Terraforming mars, Hero Quest and Wingspan.
Events & community
We host a weekly social gaming night on Wednesday 6pm-10pm. This is an evening designed for people to come along and meet up with everyone else to play some games. Lots of our regulars are big board game enthusiasts and will bring along their latest kick starter or purchase to share with the group! We have a wide range of gamers coming along, from those that enjoy a casual gaming experience to those who love a long crunchy eurogame.
Every other Friday we have our Neurospicy craft and chill evening from 6pm-9pm, this is a session for anyone who wants to bring along a craft project and just hang out, have a chat about their week, and share some crafting skills.
On Sundays we play Blood on the clocktower from 5pm-10pm, with all sessions suitable for new and experienced players. We love the flexibility of Blood on the Clocktower to work for people who love social deduction games and those who prefer to puzzle it out.
Food & drinks
Here at Bake Battle Roll CIC, we don't do fancy food, but we do sell a great selection of delicious, filling meals including sandwiches, toasties, burgers and an all day brunch. Rachel also makes all of our cakes and bakes and there’s always several vegan options available. We always have a selection of cookies and cookie pies, as well as lots of other amazing bakes.
Why people should visit
A visit to Bake Battle Roll CIC is always a friendly and relaxed one. The cafe is full of interesting things to look at with Miniatures, a reading library and lots of colorful pictures and posters. We love teaching people how to play games and never leave anyone stuck on what to play or how to play it. We love getting to know our customers and working out how to make their visit as nice as possible. Customers often come back several times a week to hang out, take a break from their busy week or to have a chat with Rachel and James.

- Wednesday + Thursday 1pm-10pm
- Friday 1pm-6pm ( Neurospicy crafting bi weekly 6pm-9pm)
- Saturday 10am-10pm
- Sunday 11am-10pm
