Agent Avenue is a high-stakes, two-player game where reading your opponent’s moves and tell tale signs is absolutely key. The objective is simple: catch your opponent in a fast-paced battle of strategy and bluffing. Whilst it’s built for two players, it’s easy to adapt for a four-player game, making it a versatile choice for smaller groups.
Each player is dealt 4 agent cards, which determines how many spaces you can move around the board. On your turn, you must present two of these cards to your opponent one face up and one face down. Your opponent chooses which card they want to recruit, and you take the remaining card for yourself. Both players then move around the board based on the Agents they’ve recruited.
This is where Agent Avenue really shines. Every decision becomes a psychological puzzle as you try to manipulate your opponent into choosing the card you want them to take. Are you baiting them with a powerful face-up Agent, or hiding your true intentions behind the face-down card? The game is packed with bluffs, double bluffs, and moments of second-guessing, keeping tension high from start to finish.
Replayability
Agent Avenue keeps things simple on the surface, but there’s plenty here to bring you back for repeat plays. While the game doesn’t have many components, the elegant design ensures there are no unnecessary distractions, allowing the focus to remain firmly on player interaction and deception.
What really drives the replayability is the inclusion of both Advanced Mode and the Team Variant. Advanced Mode introduces a second board and an additional deck of cards known as Black Market cards. These can be picked up by landing on specific spaces on the board and come with either instant effects or ongoing abilities that can dramatically shift the balance of the game.
Black Market cards are particularly effective at keeping players on their toes. They can completely flip established strategies on their head, for example, where recruiting three Daredevils would normally cause you to lose the game, a Black Market card can turn that condition into a winning one instead. This added layer forces players to rethink their strategy, deepening the bluffing and mind games and ensuring no two games ever play out the same way.
Round Up
Agent Avenue is a perfect pick for fans of quick, strategic games that involve a bit of psychology and plenty of fun. It’s easy to learn, fast to play, and keeps you engaged with its clever mechanics. Whether you’re playing a quick two-player match or expanding it to four, this is the kind of game that will get you scheming and laughing at the same time.
I’d recommend it for anyone who enjoys bluffing, deduction, and testing how well you really know your opponent. It’s now one of my go-to games for small group fun as it is quick to teach, and even quicker to get into!
