Spooky Tower available now

Paul Websell

It’s time to do a bit of Ghostbusting, or in this case, collecting, as Spooky Tower is now available! With an amulet getting shattered that held a protective spell to keep some devilish ghosts prisoner in an old clock tower, these pesky ghosts have escaped into the night and its up to you to stop them. This 2-5 player game has you trying to capture ghosts in a very literal sense, as you will be taking photos of them with a camera to trap them, trying to be the first player to collect 5 ghosts to win. Or alternatively, you can try and rebuild the sacred amulet to restore the protection spell by bringing together 3 pieces of the amulet to save the town. A lot of Scooby Doo type fun, simple to learn and play, there is a lot to love with Spooky Tower, and best of all, it’s already available to buy, at a cracking price at under £20. A Family Affair Spooky Tower looks like another fantastic lightweight family game from the masters of the genre in Repos Production, the publisher of this ghoulish game. They have a proven track record of creating cracking board games for all the family to enjoy, with mega hits such as Just One, 7 Wonders Duel and Toy Battle already in their back catalogue. Spooky Tower looks like it will fit perfectly alongside these great games. Beautifully designed with a wonderful tower giving it great table presence, and a very simple ruleset that scales perfectly at smaller and larger player counts. And while its theme and title might come off as a bit childish for some gamers, it does feel like the sort of game that will be a household favourite in no time, or a perfect gateway board game. I Ain’t Afraid Of No Ghost While these ghosts may be frightening to some, you and your fellow players won’t be scared trying to either round them up with your camera or rebuilding the amulet to trap them once again. The turn structure couldn’t be simpler. On your turn you will roll dice, and depending on the outcome of your roll you will do one of two things, take a card, or flip your cards. Once you have done this, you will apply any revealed effects and check if you have captured a ghost. It’s simplicity might be Spooky Tower's best attribute, a fun game to end the evening on. While it won’t appeal to everyone, I do think if you take one look at Spooky Tower you will find yourself at least somewhat intrigued, and maybe you will find you have a hankering for a bit of photography. And with it available on Zatu at under £20, now might be the perfect time to get a bit spooky.
