While it might be a little early to wish you a Merry Christmas, it’s clearly not for Games Workshop. They have announced their annual Christmas battleforce boxes, 4 for Age of Sigmar and 7 for 40k.
For those who don’t know, Warhammer battleforces and other boxed sets are essentially how they do sales. You will never see actual sales on Warhammer directly from Games Workshop, but you will see bundle boxes. How much discount these offer can vary wildly, and it’s worth doing some quick calculations before diving in, but they are usually fairly good. Then it’s just a case of deciding if what’s in the box is what you want, or are you compromising to take advantage of the deal. Where do you draw your line in the sand?
In any case, let’s take a quick look at what we’ve got.
Age of Sigmar
Skryre Warpswarm
A veritable horde of Skaven in this box, although that’s Skaven for you all over. This box includes an Arch-Warlock, 20 Stormvermin, a Ratling Warpblaster, 3 Warplock Jezzails, 5 Acolyte Globadiers, and a Warpspark Weapon Battery.
Lances of the Crimson Keep
There is nothing quite as terrifying as Blood Knights charging at you. Now you can instil that fear in your opponent. This box includes Prince Vhordrai, 10 Blood Knights, and 3 Fell Bats.
Dankhold Rampage
Troggoths can sleep for a very very long time, and they aren’t the cleverest creatures in the Mortal Realms, but Sigmar save anyone in their path if they’re angry. This box includes Trugg, the Troggoth King, a Dankhold Troggboss, 6 Rockgut Troggoths, and 3 Fellwater Troggoths.
Outcast Spitegrove
There is a lot of collateral damage when armies clash, not least of which is the environment around them. Most forget about it, but not the Sylvaneth. They will protect life and nature in all its forms. This box includes Queen of the Outcasts Drycha Hamadreth, a Spirit of Durthu, 15 Spite-Revenants, and 20 Dryads.
40K
Blissbound Warband
By the dark gods Fulgrim is an impressive model. I’m sorry I have nothing else to say, that is one huge snake bat demon thing. This box includes Fulgrim (of course), 6 Flawless Blades, and 6 Noise Marines (woo, love Noise Marines).
Cthonian Prospect
The Kin have arrived and staked a claim to your world. You have 1 hour to leave. Oh you don’t want to leave? Well that’s a shame, they’ll just plow through you while they dig the ground out from beneath your feet to get at precious minerals. This box includes a Brôkhyr Iron-master with Ironkin Assistant and three E-COGs, 3 Brôkhyr Thunderkyn, 2 Cthonian Earthshakers, 10 Cthonian Beserks, and a Kapricus Defender.
Crusher Stampede
Most of the time when you face off against Tyranids you expect a horde to swarm over your forces. But what can be just as if not more scary, are some of their big creatures
peering down at you. This box includes a Neurotyrant with two Neuroloids, a Screamer-Killer, a Tyrannofex, a Haruspex, and a Maleceptor.
Farsight Cadre
Commander Farsight leading a strike force full of battlesuits, what more could you ask for? Farsight himself is still a fantastic model. This box includes Commander Farsight, a Riptide Battlesuit, a Broadside Battlesuit, 3 Crisis Battlesuits, and 8 drones.
Iron Halo Strike Force
The poster boys are back, but they are nothing to laugh at, it looks like the forces in this box will pack a punch, especially those Dreads. This box includes a Captain, Company Heroes, 5 Sternguard Veteran, 5 Hellblasters, a Ballistus Dreadnought, and a Redemptor Dreadnought. It also contains a set of the Space Marine heads.
Hellforged Warband
Twisted after living for a Millennia in the warp, the forces of Chaos are back to wreak havoc on the galaxy. This box includes a Lord Discordant, a Hellforged Warband, a Helstalker, an arachnoid Venomcrawler, 2 Obliterators, 5 Havocs, 10 Legionaries, and a Chaos Rhino.
Krieg Siege Platoon
The Death Korps of Krieg, those shovel wielding maniacs, oh how we love them. It’s great that they have a more expanded range now just for them, as I’m sure nearly every player has considered collecting them at one point or another. This box includes a Lord Commissar, a Krieg Command Squad, 20 Death Korps of Krieg, Combat Engineers, and two Artillery Teams.
