Raising a giant city-destroying monster probably sounds stressful, but somehow this upcoming board game has managed to make it look surprisingly wholesome!
How to Raise Your Kaiju is the latest project from Rose Gauntlet Entertainment, and it is heading to Kickstarter this July. The upcoming strategy game puts players in charge of raising baby kaiju and helping them grow into full-scale world conquerors.
Which, honestly, is a pretty great setup for a board game.
Raising Tiny Monsters
In How to Raise Your Kaiju, players take on the role of kaiju parents, guiding their creatures through different stages of growth while competing to earn the most Gold Stars.
The game supports two to four players and mixes strategy mechanics with a much lighter, more playful theme than most monster games usually go for.
Rather than focusing entirely on destruction, the game leans into the idea of actually raising your kaiju. Players unlock parenting abilities, help their monsters develop new skills and send them out into the world to take on bigger challenges as the game progresses.
Of course, those challenges still include conquering cities and smashing through defences, so the giant monster chaos is definitely still there!
Kickstarter Launch Incoming
Rose Gauntlet Entertainment has confirmed the game will launch on Kickstarter in July, with a prelaunch page already live ahead of the campaign.
Players who back early will also receive a free Baby Kaiju pin as part of their pledge reward.
That sort of early bonus has become pretty common for crowdfunding campaigns, but it does fit nicely with the game’s theme.
At the moment, there is still limited information available about the full rules or gameplay systems, although the studio has confirmed that new cities and tougher challenges appear as rounds progress, giving players more opportunities to strengthen their monsters over time.
Rose Gauntlet Keeps Growing
Rose Gauntlet Entertainment has steadily built a name for itself with games that often mix strong themes, colourful presentation and approachable gameplay ideas.
How to Raise Your Kaiju looks like another example of that direction, combining strategy mechanics with a concept that immediately feels easy to understand.
And while there is no shortage of monster-themed games out there already, this one definitely feels like it is trying something a bit different by focusing on the parenting side rather than just the destruction.
Sometimes that is all a game really needs to stand out!
