A classic fantasy world is getting a new lease of life as Fire & Ice makes the jump from animation and comics to the tabletop!
Dynamite Entertainment is bringing its Fire & Ice Miniatures Adventure Game to retail this November, giving fans another way to explore the world created by legendary artist Frank Frazetta and animation pioneer Ralph Bakshi.
From screen to tabletop!
Originally released in 1983, Fire and Ice combined Frazetta’s distinctive fantasy artwork with Bakshi’s animation techniques to create a cult fantasy adventure. The film was written by Roy Thomas and Gerry Conway, and followed heroes caught in a battle between the forces of Firekeep and Icepeak. The franchise has already returned to the comic book world through Dynamite, with new stories expanding the setting beyond the original film. Now, players can get involved themselves! The tabletop game was originally launched through Kickstarter, where the campaign successfully raised almost $97,000 from 945 backers, reaching 193% of its $50,000 goal.
Battle for Firekeep!
The game is designed as a tactical skirmish experience for two or more players. You’ll take control of the heroes of Firekeep and face the forces of Icepeak across four different regional game boards. Princess Teegra, Larn the Warrior, and Darkwolf are among the characters players can command as they roll custom ten-sided dice, use cards, and move their miniatures around the battlefield. The core game includes 14 assembled miniatures, six character cards, 54 event cards, 12 activity cards, six custom D10s, more than 200 tokens, and a rulebook. Games are expected to take around 60 to 120 minutes, with the game aimed at players aged 13 and over.
More than a skirmish!
There’s also a roleplaying twist! Alongside the tactical combat rules, Fire & Ice includes Rules-Lite mechanics that allow players to continue their adventures beyond individual battles. That means groups can create their own stories and take the characters into new scenarios rather than simply fighting from one map to another. It’s a fitting addition to a franchise that has already expanded from film into comics and now tabletop gaming.
Coming to retail!
