One of my favourite games that I have been enjoying a long time. That isn't one of the most popular or the most beloved, or even in the top 200 board games of all time, is Black Forest. Black Forest is by designer Uwe Rosenberg, a very famous name in the game of design. Black Forest came out in 2024 And for me it's a fantastic worker placement game based on the real-life work of the German glassmakers in the Black Forest region, of that country.
Now, after two years of being beloved on people's shelves, Black Forest is coming as a digital version online. The Alpha is recently just released for players who know the game to understand the new digital version will include ranked matchmaking, a game review using the computer version, mobile and desktop layouts, and the opportunity to play with friends. There'll also be chances to have ranked scores against other players. And a review feature be able to improve with the opportunity to look at your decisions after each game and see which moves were efficient and which were inefficient. Plus, the chance to play without waiting with a strong AI opponent that knows all the best moves and that you can improve your own skills of the game The ranked seasons will also feature in at least five different tiers, as players make their way up the groups With the blessing of Feuerland Spiele, the digital version hopes to be released soon to the public after the first phase of Beta testing.
Black Forest deserves an online version cutting out the slightly faffy set up of over 30 different building tiles. Plus a vibrant community who love and adore this game are sure to take their experiences virtual once the opportunity arises. I for one cannot wait to put more hours into a game I have loved and cherished since owning it.
