Relatively new designer and publisher Amsterdam Board Game Design have recently launched their third season of Kickstarter board games. With three different games by different artists and designers, there is sure to be something to appeal to light game fanatics. Their Kickstarter campaign is already fulfilled but finishes on the 14th of May. And as with all backed projects, you get a few extras for being an investor in the last tabled offering.
Stubborn Sheep
The Scottish Highlands can be a hostile and remote place. But any drive from Lochs and Monroes will show you that sheep prevail in this climate. You are a shepherd trying to create sets of the same-coloured sheep. Seating up to 5 players, this card game is played rounds, as you place gates down to create clusters of sheep.
The gates indicate the colour of sheep you must move. Yellow are the friendliest and like to have a friend as they move location. Red are of course angry and get annoyed at the presence of other sheep around. Blue sheep like to be with their own kind; we all can get lonely sometimes. White sheep count as any colour you wish them too, making them a jack of all trades. All sheep count as one point and the most sheep collected is the winning shepherd!
Will you be able to master the sheep and your opponents at the same time? Stubborn Sheep has some mini-expansions in the works already and has hilarious artwork and theming. You’ll be mad and sad but glad it is on your table too.
Coaster Clash
Have the wind in your hair and possibly a sick bag at the ready as we ride high on the rollercoaster of life! Played with 3 to 6 players, Coaster Clash only takes 25 minutes to play. You’ll be cooperating with others as you play cards to build the best roller coasters. Each person builds two coasters each, will draw new elements of the roller coasters to score excitement for the passengers to enjoy. You’ll be placing elements on those to your right and left as well, to help you claim victory.
Played over six rounds, this game is as fast as the adrenaline-filled loops, twists, and turns you’ll be making. A cunning mix of helpfulness and selfishness is needed in this one. You want to benefit your own creations, but additionally, you want to give your opponent options, so they are kind to you in return. A clever implementation of player interaction, this will make a great party game.
With two coasters to score points with, it is about making the best choices for yourself whilst keeping an eye on everyone else’s progress. With live scoring for each coaster, as the game draws to a close, you can be more aggressive in giving the worst cards to those around you.
Greedy Grabbers
A trick-taking game, Greedy Grabbers is the Halloween-inspired spell and sweet treat candy-grabbing game. You’ll be anticipating the movements of others as players decide when to grab the shared pile for themselves. Players are vying for no more than five points within a certain set. So keeping an eye and risking it all are part of the fun. Go over five points and that set scores nothing; exactly five and you get a nice little bonus to add.
The spells are used for rearranging and removal of candy so you can make sure you get the most points possible! Spells even can change values, change one candy type with another, or discard any card. With gummies, chocolate, and cookies, the artwork evokes the theming of this game well. Suitable for children eight and upwards, this is a good game for families who like a little fun.
Round lengths are determined by the number of players, but three rounds are played in total, each with multiple grabbing and sorting stages. Whoever has the highest value will walk away with sweet, sweet victory!
